I've got a 1969 383 Dart with manual steering. I'd like to retrofit with power steering. I keep reading that the rear mount ear on the left side of the block has to be cut off to allow this. Anyone got a picture of what has to be done?

I've never heard that, I wouldn't cut a ear off my block. You need those.

Do you have a aftermarket mount on there or O.E.

The stock '69 383 Dart left side mount bracket does not use the rear block mounting ear. I've just read when you retrofit this car with power steering there can be an interference between the power steering chuck and the rear ear. So it gets removed. I just don't know what it should look like when it's done.

It's not necessary to copy the factory cut. Power steering works fine with the DC k-member, which uses factory '74-78 mounts that use the mount ears on the block. Add the PS and don't look back.

Jim, this isn't the DC K-member, this is an OEM. Would that affect anything?

had you considered electric power steering assist? it cuts into the column under the dash so no engine bay issues as the manual box stays put.

Yeah, I have thought about that for other vehicles but I am just too much of a purist to go that route on this car.

Mock it up and see. On my car I had to chamfer the rear mount ear but I didn't have to cut it off.
