I started learning about cars from my old man when I was about 6 or 7 years old. He was mainly a Ford guy, but he also had a few GM and one or two Mopars, plus the odd import. I have learned about so many different makes, mostly from firsthand experience making a living in the automotive trade, but I know that there is a whole lot more that I don't know. I don't know much about theory and calculating compression ratios or camshaft science, but I can take something apart and put it back together without any problem. I am always willing to help anyone who asks if I can, but I have to agree with others who have stated that they are frustrated by vague questions and little to no feedback or additional information.

I am just glad I was born with sunoco 110 leaded in my veins.
Just today, A kid came up to me at school asking me to diagnose his misfire in his honda.
I figured out the damn thing burns so much oil it was fouling plugs. I'm bringing him some lucas motor honey tomorrow to at least lessen the oil burning.
I'm just happy this forum if filled with people that are eager to help the young guys.
the H.A.M.B was the first forum I joined and all I tried to do was start a picture thread and everyone just started piling on telling me how stupid I was for starting a picture thread when there was already one on the site. :wtf:

I have been on lots of forums, and i honestly do not think anybody here really gives the newbs a hard time unless the have it coming. Its a respect thing. And has always seemed mutual to me.
Unless i start asking for donations to build a street rod. cause i think all of you should because i think i deserve it. Familiar?

I wouldnt know much about my A-bodies if it wasnt for the knowledge here. I am a certified auto mechanic, but the knowledge here is second to none...

It's tough for us older guys. We have worked hard through many years of work and experience. Many of the younger crowd nowadays can simply ask a question on a forum and hopefully get a answer at the click of a keyboard button. No work, no studying, no experience just answers from guys that have a half century of experience. Geez you young guys, look it up here using search. Read until your eyes bleed then read some more. You will be shocked how much you learn while searching for a answer to another question. Don't be lazy and don't expect everybody to open their bag of tricks for your benefit. You may have to pay some dues like we all did. On the flip side of that coin, I don't mind teaching and helping out. But when I read this kind of stuff I might blow a gasket! LOL
Norman new guy asks " Where can I get ***?"
I say "*** has them available".
New member asks "do you have a link?"

Really dude? :rofl::rofl:

I feel most everyone here means well, but there are a lot of racers here, and some tend to be Impatient with guys that are Inexperienced, and simply want to repair a stock driver type.
not to excuse the snow flakes of the world that are also in the hobby. e.j: gee do you have a link? I feel like saying: get off your lazy butt and do a little self help!
then there is the guy that red x's a post, but fails to justify the Disagree, and does not ever respond.
I personally never do that, as it just isn't Important to chime in, let it go is my motto.

There are a lot of things I know nothing about, so I don't give my 2 cents unless I am sure my opinion is worth a buck or two to somebody. being 68 and remembering driving these cars when they were new does help a lot. But I am a pure stock type car person, I know, boring!

And no, chevy's and Fords did not win all the street races, and neither did Mopar,, The best driver won almost every time!
And, Pontacs, olds, and Buicks were turds on the street most of the time.

Most forget their own first experience of “not knowing what to do”.

Hey are you making fun of the fact that we old farts can't remember where the part we so carefully put away 2 days ago was so carfeully put, or where I laid the screwdriver down that I had in my hand 5 $%**!@ minutes ago???

I have a friend of mine who doesn't know Jack **** about anything mechanical. But he helps me out a lot because he always knows where I set my beer down last, lol.

Also been driving and working on these cars and tons of others of about every make.
I have an automotive background of about 50 years.
I swapped out my very first 727 transmission at 13 and with no help, lifts or stands.
I used my Dad’s road grader and cut a ditch to lay in to take it out and put the other one in.
Took me month of saving school lunch money to buy fluid for it.

I was Certified in about every category there was but later in my adult life I specialized in stick shifts for a national chain, but also diagnosed and rebuilt automatics for BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Volkswagen Allison.
I hate VW. :D

When someone doesn’t want to put any of their own effort into what they need I loose interest.
Someone willing to put in the work and learn no matter what it takes, I’ll help them.

Last seen online on Tuesday, so sounds like it

Unless you met a GS 455 Stage 1. In 1978 at the Buick dealer in my town, the Bartlett family brought their green GS in. I helped another mechanic pull the motor and asked what was up. Gary said it needed a new short block. A few weeks later the engine is all put back together, Tony the ASM asks me to test drive it. Sure no big deal. "Dont let it get away from you Goots!" (my nickname at the dealership.) I still remember the thrust as I slowly pushed my foot down on Main st. Out in the parking lot was my 68 383 RR. It wouldnt have stood a chance.

Pontiac Ram Air IV 400 :steering: You may wanna hang on to sumthin when I nail it.
Friend had a music shop, one of his employees fell into a GTO with a 400 Ram Air.
"It's not running right" he tells his boss.
"Let Alex take a look at it. He'll make it right."
Took it home fiddled with it some, put some parts in it, test drove it  took it back.
":wtf: did you do to that thing? It's frickin' scarey!"
"That's the way it's sposed to run. Have fun."

510 lb/ft of torque get's it done!

Then there is the make three threads asking the same question different ways followed by a fourth, why wont anybody help me?? Guy. all in the span of 20 minutes.

There are some definite irritants sometimes. But what you need to remember is that what you find easy or obvious may not be to someone who doesn't know. A lot of people seem to forget this and get irritated by the question(s). Also, some people may ask a question not just for the answer but to strike up a conversation. To simply communicate with like minded others.

Head on over to p15-d24.com and try out the search function. Its useless. Well, to me it is.
But questions asked usually take 3 days to get answered.

lots of great info for the real old dodges, but a bear to navigate.

here’s where patience is a virtue.

What pulls my trigger is when a 10 year member posts something for sale and I ask politely to post pictures or I will have to remove it... then he gets mad and name calling get thrown at me for calling him out... so I re-read how I wrote it out and there was no reason to jump me for helping this site.

I am a polite person, I am fair, but it yanks my chain .
