Slant six in a Miata ? Why ???

Because they can? That's hot rodding!
My question isn't "why he's doing it". My question is "Does he need anyone's permission to do it ?
Tony may have mentioned the "why" of this project some time back. If so, I missed it.
I could just shrug my shoulders and walk on by if he said something like..."I'm as broke as a homeless dude and I just want to see if I can do this."
Maybe what bugs me is that I have never looked at the Slanty mills as performance engines. I think that they are fantastic as workhorse engines. They are very durable and reliable.
My view is that a change should be an upgrade with the best parts that you can get within your budget or availability. The poor bastards in Cuba wouldn't be recycling Soviet era Lada parts to keep their '58 Buicks running IF they had access to modern stuff.
I will also admit that while I don't mind some non Mopar stuff in my own cars, the engine has to be a Mopar mill. I see a Chevy engine in a Mopar and it annoys me. Why? not necessarily based on purity but because our engines are not inferior to the point that others are a step up. There is a guy on FBBO with a 69 Charger with a BS-LS engine in it. That is a sacrilege!
Did he say the slant was being installed for performance?? I didn't hear that.
