Shiny Primer

I feel like most cars all tend to look the same these days. Corollas, Civics, Sentras etc.

Did it seem like this back in the 60s and 70s or is this a new thing?
The real cheap cars (sub-$30K these days!) do all look alike. You need to spend at least $40K these days, and you'll probably get something kind of distinctive. I don't really think this is anything new. The crappy color selection today has been going on for at least 20 years. Most people just don't want bright colors anymore. The car manufacturers only build what people want. However, I was recently looking at new/newish cars, and Subaru Crosstrek drivers must be different. They offer 2 different reds and one of them is very bright, metallic and non-metallic medium blue, Smurf blue, orange, khaki, and a gold/lime green that looks really cool.
