I’m getting ready to install my ported EQ heads on my 2 408 motors. Before I install them, would it be wise to take a small sanding disc or roll to the edges of the combustion chamber where the chamber meets the machined deck surface? Or am I over thinking it? The guy that ported my heads and my go to guy ( Mike Radnis, RIP) for all questions cylinder heads unfortunately passed away right after he finished my heads so I can’t ask him

That would be a bad thing to do. Think about it, that would remove material right on the edge of the head gasket where the combustion is, promoting leaking and burning. I don’t read in engine building books where it says to hand grind near the deck surface.

Leave it alone.

You don't mention the rest of the combinations... But just from the hip - yes, you're overthinking it.

You are worried about the edge being a hot spot for detonation?

Not talking about near the bore, but where the quench area of the head meets the combustion chamber

The rest of the combo is Scat 4” forged cranks, H beam rods, Icon 983 forged pistons, ported EQ heads, Edelbrock Performer RPM air gap intakes, Edelbrock 750 CFM Marine carbs, Mallory Marine electronic distributors, center rise Chrysler marine exhaust manifolds, Harland Sharp 1.6 roller rockers and Hughes hydraulic roller cams with the following

And yes concerned about hot spots as marine engines are constantly under load
