1600mi Road Trip! Only made it 20mi...

My friend, you are awesome! We’ve had some storms here in TN so that puts me out working to restore power and you have completely handled all this!! I can’t thank you enough!!
Handled? Na I didn’t do much seriously. My job was easy. Hopefully the storms will pass and you’ll have power and a D100 soon.

Mind if I ask what the price was? Since I may be shipping my car as well, roughly the same distance, if I don't decide to rent a Uhaul for the move.

Don’t mind at all. I was quoted $1,200 and booked for $1,350. I’m guessing your in Vegas by your sig so you may not be affected but Uhaul was my fall back if the truck wouldn’t make the journey. When I checked on that I was quoted $3,400 for just the truck... By the time I rented a dolly or a trailer I would have been in for $4k and still paying for fuel, lodging, and eats on the road. I felt sick... The gentleman apologized and said they were up charging due to so many leaving the state one way. If you reverse the zip codes the same truck one way is $1,200. This is why Steve and Mikes help is monumental to me even though they both feel they didn’t do much.

I just did an online quote. 1k-1400. That's not to bad!

Probably cheaper than hauling it yourself. Your car is in much better shape than this old truck so you may want to look into enclosed transportation. A bit more pricy but much safer for the vehicle I would think.

We are 80% sure we are going to be moving to Springfield. I have no clue where Springfield is in relation to St Louis, maybe 3.5hrs away?

A 6 car garage sounds nice! That's the plan for me one day. We found this house right outside of Springfield and we love it! It's on 8 acres too!

Beautiful home by the way!! Dreaming together and envisioning the family doing family things is awesome! The 8 acres is just enough to not have someone right in your yard with you.... Good luck with the search for the perfect place for you and your wife to raise those kiddos!! As fun as these old cars are I believe there is much at stake with our little ones!

In 1984, my ex wife and I drove to Bridgeport, CT to buy a 70 Challenger 340 convertible. We drove her 74 Challenger, pulling a utility trailer to haul the numbers matching 340 home in. When we got to New York City, we decided to make a lap around the city to see the sights. YEE HAW....country come to town!! About all we got, was the roofs of our moths sunburnt looking up at the big buildings. The Statue of Liberty was covered in scaffolding, because they were shaving her arm pit that held the torch up. Biggest dang sidewalks I ever seen, and I always thought all them taxi cabs honkin their horns and flipping each other off was just TV! I never really understood why that nice man that ran out at the red light and washed my windshield got so mad when I thanked him and drove away? :( We drove out of the city, and went up by The Bronx to get to CT. Sure was a lot of burnt cars on the side of the road with no wheels and tires!!! Got to the sellers house, got a quick Mopar tour, and headed back down the road, ex driving her Challenger pulling the trailer, and me driving my new to me Challenger conv. We made it back down into PA somewhere and stopped for the night. No trouble at all with either car......but I will never in my life, EVER be behind the wheel of another car in NYC!! People want to ***** about Atlanta traffic, and all I can do is....

Well, between family life and the storms in the area keeping me at work, I haven’t taken the time to update everyone. I would like to take the opportunity one more time to give a shout out to @pishta and @TT5.9mag for taking the time and making the effort to make this possible for me. You guys rock!! I owe you big time! The truck did make it to TN and I finally had a chance to snap a few pics!

Tooljunkie,

It feels like we are twins sons from different mothers. Found a 1963 Valiant in the Seattle area. After much negotiating about the details for a transfer of ownership, I was lead to believe that the car ran so good, it would drive anywhere. The plan was buy a one way ticket and drive it back to Texas. Pick the car up about March 21 then got about 500 miles down the road and a rod started knocking.

Frantically looked for options, checked renting a truck, none available. Decided to find a place to park it and work on getting a transport setup. Transport prices were all over the place ranging from $950 to $3600. This is the great part of the story... Met a total stranger the rented covered car parking spots for $75 per month.

This total stranger helped me through four different transportation companies before a driver actually showed up. Would put a charger on the battery, waited around for drivers that did not show up and providing constant feedback about what was going on. The car waited here exactly one month before I found a driver that showed up and delivered the car for $1400.

The car finally arrived 29th of Apr. By May 1st, had the motor pulled. The driver from the machine shop just stopped by the house and taking the motor to Dallas to get rebuilt. Was quoted long block rebuild - $1485 - 3 week turn around time.

What killed the motor? I found a paper towel was sucked up into the oil pickup screen. Had the motor not gone bad, I would have left the motor alone. But with taking the motor out, many little things will get fixed like, leaky rear main seal, transmission seals leaking and replace freeze plugs that a leaking. Not to mention all and the nuts and bolt I found during the engine removal that were little more then finger tight or looser.

Good luck with the D100. Hopefully you will have much fun fixing and driving it!

Check out the high volume oil pump that came on the motor in the last picture.

He’s young yet but he’s definitely all about the cars and trucks right now!! He’s been asking to ride in it since it arrived. He keeps wanting me to go fast and well.... it just doesn’t... What it does do is exceed the current suspension/handling capabilities very quickly!!:steering:
