Slant six in a Miata ? Why ???

Someone please buy Tony a bottle of Argon/CO2 so he can stop using that nasty flux core wire.

Right after high school my buddy bought a dodge conquest. Cool little car and I always had a vision of putting a 340 in one. What ever happened to those cars? Never see them anymore.

they were Mitsubishi junk weren't they all wheel drive? I also had a friend who had one, but it sat, something was wrong with tit and this was like 1989 it wasnt that old.

probably expensive to fix because of imported parts and they got junked. It was funny because he was always talking about his "Conquest" but we never seen it go down the street :)

I just googled conquest and it came up Chrysler conquest. Were these Chryslers? I always thought it was Dodge. Either way I think they were re-badged mitsubishi's.

I don't remember them being all wheel drive. I do remember it having independent rear suspension and 4 wheel discs. His was supercharged with intercooler and did move pretty good. He ended up getting chased by the cops and wrecking it in the woods. Then he got tazed by the cops and the police dog chewed his *** off.

Yeah and the Eagle Talon wasn't that the same body? along with the Mitsubishi Eclipse.

No, starion I believe was the conquest

Eagle talon, Mitsubishi eclipse and dodge laser were a different thing (but all 3 of those were the same)

My memory is getting there. I remember the Stealth was a "big deal" there right about when the Viper came out. 1989 or 1990 ish..maybe 91 ahh the good old days LOL! Although I think 92 was the Viper. I just remember the Stealth being a neat offering from Dodge till we figure out it was an eclipse LOL!

I don’t think the laser was AWD, the Eagle Talon was. It would break, but it was the precursor to the EVOlution. That car dominated street performance in the early 2000’s and made Subaru really up their game, which wasn’t as substantial, ended up being more advertising than performance.
The Mopar-Mitsubishi alliance was Much better than Ford-Mazda, and Chevrolet-Isuzu in product/technologic development. The older 2.2 turbo of the Challenger (that shall not be referred to!) that developed into the laser comes to mind. Seemed to compete VERY WELL against Ford’s 302 V8.

actually...the stealth was a rebadge mitsu 3000GT

i thought the eclispe, laser and talon could all be had with 2 or 4wd, as well as N/A or turbo

as for the evolution, the eclipse came about before the evolution, but the evo was based on the lancer line, not the eclipse (and the lancer itself predates the eclipse by over a decade)

the lancer of course was also rebadge as a dodge colt

along side the lancer was a 2 door car offered in the US named the mirage (got a nice ring to it, doesnt it?)

during the 90s, you could take an EVO 4-6 and match it to the right year mirage, do a swap and end up with a 2 door EVO, pretty cool
(im sure there is a ton of crossbreeding im skipping over)

the whole conglomeration of Chrysler and Mitsubishi is knows as "Diamond Star Motors" (DSM if you're a ricer)

I figured I'd resurrect this " lets beat up on Uncle Tony" Thread(or one off em ) LOL!

Tony did fire the engine on the ground but i cant help but think there will be an epic fail that halts the project in its tracks...I see alot of smoke on he horizon...not welder smoke either...blown trans line or oil burning out the exhaust smoke ... reasoion I say that? he picked up a scrapyard motor, didnt even open it up,ius throwing it in to see what happens. A set of bearings rings and gaskets is in order at a minimum. hings i think he did good on his home paint jobs on the swinger and Duster.

Nothing wrong with a JY motor. I pulled a 1970 440 out of a badly wrecked New Yorker in 1994. A couple of years later it was in my '67 Dart GT hardtop backed by a home built 18-spline. I had pulled the valve covers and it was VERY clean inside, like it had been rebuilt. So, I took a chance that it would run good and it did run good. Over the next 35,000 miles and two cars we did a cam swap with a new timing chain (pulled the heads for a look). Finally at around 30,000 miles we did a valve job. Rebuilt the short block last year. The short block had not been apart since 1970...

I have a 1970 Charger project that is ratty looking and will stay that way for awhile. I'm fine with that.
I actually like the UTG channel and do agree with most of his stuff. I didn't agree with his opinion about subframe connectors but many other videos have been great.
I see his videos with his booger-popcorn welds and just facepalm....He is a very sloppy fabricator and welder but a great dude for many other things.
He's a butcher, and a hack and full of crap too... i'd bet his eyes are brown...:)

As I understand it, Uncle Tony abandoned his Miata project when he could find no one interested in running autocross in it. He pulled the slant six back out.

I believe it was said they actually junked the pile of Mazda not long ago. So much for that "build"

I don’t see a slant being a good option for an autox car anyway, unless he’d have done an efi conversion on it. Get enough starvation issues with a carb’d v8.

That's OK, there's a new member on .org putting a Slanty in an RX8, you read that right.........

Anyone see tha crap paint job on that Charger ? all that blocking and sanding for it to turn out looking like it was done with a case of Rust oleum rattle cans...

Fans of Tony DeFeo and his YouTube channel "Uncle Tony's Garage" may already know of this build.....

I wonder though....Why put a slant six in one of those cars? Why not a V6 like a 3.6 Pentastar or an LA series engine?
Slant six...It weighs almost double what a Miata engine weighs and makes about the same power.
Tony had to hack the firewall, the trans tunnel and then butcher some bullshit cover to close off the engine bay and trans tunnel.....to fit a slant six in there.
Opinions?

If i rememer right, he was talking about the straight 6 European sound.

I think it COULD be in something it was actually DESIGNED to be in, like an early Valiant, for instance. But a long, heavy slant 6 in a Miata? I don't know man. I think it was a bad idea on that one. Didn't he use like some plywood and all in that car in places? It just seemed destined for how it ended up right from the start.

The popular swap with those cars is the small block Ford. They fit really well. That actually makes for a nice little ride.

As the owner of two tiny foreign cars with big V8s swapped in, that click-bait abortion never had a chance, the worst possible swap, done by a hack, for you tube content.
