Well, hopefully that is true. The shaft seal is a likely leak point if it is very old. The commercial/industrial method is to pressure test a system with nitrogen, have it hold 300 psi for a day or so, and evacuate to 400 microns and hold that for a hour. A/C is detailed, precise work.
