I recently pick up a r3 block part number p4876671 which is a 9.20 deck,48 degree, four bolt 340 main siamese. This is new a still in the pallet from mopar.I don't know a lot about these so looking for any information would be great. Are 48 degree w9 heads still available or are there something else out there? What is the max stroke crank this block can take with the short deck?
Thanks

Pays to do research FIRST... your first hurdle will be finding a 48° cam blank, you MIGHT find used W9 heads but its ALL race specific stuff, each team that used those heads and blocks machined them differently, and short deck intakes and front covers are specific to the short deck, not the same as production 59° stuff

Contact Brett Miller, it could possibly save you a lot of time and heartache.

Would you like to sell the block?

Ok, I ain’t making no promises but...somewhere around here I have the paper work for the R3 block. The questions are: where the hell is it, and will I ever be able to find it.

I agree, cam blanks will be a B-I-itch. You can contact Cam Motion because the two times I need a core they had them. If they don’t have it, they might be able to tell you where to get them.

And I highly second the suggestion you contact Brett Miller. His heads and intake kick maximum ***. He may be able to hook you up better than a dime store Hooker on blow.

I’ll look and see if I can find that stuff on the R block.

Edit: once my brain kicked in I remembered Cam Motion can make you a core. It ain’t cheap. They used to make custom cores anyway.

You can put the Victor heads on that 48 degree block, and they will make 750-800 easy with the right parts....just the way they come cnc ported.
TTI makes headers for them too

Will take a LOT of cash to get from a block and pair of victor heads to a 750 horse engine, but your not wrong!

If you get w9 heads here is a set of headers cheap (not mine)

Thanks for the info everyone.I heard about the front cover but not that the cam cores are totally different.
Brett is fairly local to me but I never met him.I think he uses harshmans dyno and he's five minutes from me.
This block feels like it weights twice as much as a production block.

arrow made front timing covers for those. You see them around. Think i have seen a couple on here for sale actually at one time or another

What exactly would be needed to install victor heads?Pushrod tubes moved?

Will also probably require a fair amount of machining to run a roller lifter, something else to consider

Could be, I couldn't recall which version needed machined for clearance
59 degree R3’s usually do.
X block is the same in the lifter area as a production block, so no worries there.
Just the 59R3 stuff is problematic, 48 degree shouldn't be an issue.
It does all get confusing..lol

I know I have a 59° R3 here, and would definitely need alot of meat removed to get a roller in there...

I have an R3 48 428 4" stroke tall deck with Victor heads 2 inch babbit cam, almost give up on the cam a guy called & said he had a blank Crow cams in Australia ground it up.
The Victor heads needed a bit of machining for pushrod clearance solid roller Hughes offset rocker kit ,3/8" smith bros pushrods also the TTi headers ,Billet rocker covers & valley plate from Jeremy Harshman .
There is a Set of W9 Chapman heads on Facebook at the moment

Comp makes a set of lifters that may drop in, I have them in my R1 block. On my block it did require removing the extra bosses for the head bolts, they would have to be removed on this block no matter what roller lifters were used though.

I used Crane ultra pro solids on my 48 degree no machining at all i sent my block off to be bushed they set it up on the Rottler mill & said it didnt need doing only the numbers that end in a & B need to be bushed it is the number laser etched into barrel no 1 near the front of the deck it looks like the last ones produced had all the lifter bores & oiling done on the line.

This is all good info.
Did you dyno or make it to the track yet with your combo?
That's alot of work in the intake and valley pan.
