hey guys building a 408 for my Aspen. Comp ratio is around 11.47:1, 3.91 rear gears, 904 trans with shift kit and rev man VB, 275/50r15 rear tire and may run a small shot of spray. Currently I have a Huges 27-25HD converter which worked great on my mild 318 but... so I did call a few shops but they all seem to want to push me onto their shelf units. My cam im using recommends at least a 2800 stall. Any opinions?

I've found that the recommended stall from most cam manufacturers is on the low end. For a build like yours with lotsa torque I'd be looking at 3500 stall converters. JMO 65'

Give Lenny at Ultimate Converters a call he'll build you exactely what you need..

I certainly have no quarrel with the Lenny recommendation, and i have NO personal experience with them, but i hear that the owner of PTC is a mopar guy, and i see his contingency stickers on LOTS of really fast cars.
Just somebody else to check with.
(Personally, i would look for a tight nine inch converter.)

There is a local guy that bought an Atlantic Coastal converter thinking it would work on his 727. He's asking $400 for it. It is new but...its 5000 stall. How well would it work on short trips to work and short cruises?

Not worth a crap

Well you need to get a converter from Lenny..then you'll never recommend anyone else for sure!!

I have a friend with a 408 duster and a custom PTC converter that works really well. Any good custom built converter will always be miles ahead of the shelf units. Got the cam spec's? I'm more just curious than anything else.

I believe that to be true. Custom converters are internally modified for specific rpm's and function. Of the shelf converters are usually smaller converters welded onto the base to provide a higher stall. I would ask a manufacturer for the right one that matches your build. A 408 doesn't rpm much so you don't necessarily need a real high stall.

Great recommendation. I also second calling a known converter specialist and Lenny certainly qualifies.

Before you pull the trigger give Chris a call from Biltrite converters, he is in Illinois, there are some good reviews about them. I have one of his in my 68 build but I have not fired it up yet, so I can't tell you how it works yet.
