Hey everybody, just got a 68 dart 270 slant six for a good price because I want to make my own street beast. I want to make great power on pump gas (92) octane, and I would like to do a big block. Anybody out there got any suggestions for what I could do to this car? (Kinda wanted to do a 440) As far as which big block would be good for fitting and stuff? Any info would be very much appreciated. Thank you

Your question is really not about our opinions, but about what YOU want to do. If you want to go with a 440, then start searching the forum posts about that swap and start learning.

Not sure if you know this but a 383 and 440 are the both going to go into your car the same way. The search function is also very helpful for questions like this as it is a fairly common swap.

Suggest a b block, the clearances especially header is damn tight with an RB If Schumacher still makes the their header fit well but leave power on the table if you have a high hp setup. May have kframe clearance issues with oil pump.

Lots of info out there. We have done B and RB swaps. RB is very TIGHT in many places, BUT my latest build is a 440 because it was FREE. Yes, I could have traded for a 383, but I didn't want to. All of our builds have used B-body HP manifolds which are especially tight with an RB, but worth it...

how about a 383 to 496 stroker??

Lots of tight spaces. I run a 440 in my 67 notch. Used AndyF’s motor plate and tti headers. Still had to beat on the tubes by the steering column. The passenger side is maybe 3/8” away from inner fender. Gotta use a mini starter with headers.
