Where was the fact check for the original post? What was its source? It’s a random meme probably harvested from Facebook or Twitter. So words on a picture and it must be true? No one questioned for a second if it was real.

What they should be doing is finding an alternate fuel that will work like gas but cleaner. They can do it but they don't want to....
 
It's not just batteries that are an issue, a guy that works out at the gymn I do just had to replace the tires on his Tesla at 24,000 miles. When he checked into it that is pretty standard tire life for electric cars. So about twice the tire consumption for these green machines. And the tires cost him almost $400.00 each!

In 1979 I drove a car that got an honest 43 MPG.
It ran on leaded fuel, no cat, had a carburetor and points.
It got my *** from point A to point B reliably for over 10 years with one engine rebuild.
No one can tell me that with today's technology an internal combustion engine and car can't be made to beat that by 100 percent.
The bigest problem is people want to drive tanks to haul one person around.
Bad drivers all too.
We are dealing with morons on the roadways.

I agree. A feller I grew up with always has to drive a full size truck, he doesn't have a pot to piss in, and I always ask him "...how the hell do you keep gas in it?..it must cost ya 100 bucks every time to fill it?"

There was a time I cared about gas mileage...and at this point in my life, I simply.ply dont care

I honestly couldn't even tell you an estimate on what each of my vehicles gets in that department

The only time I focused on using less gas was when me and and the wife were putting 100 miles a day on both vehicles
When I'm buying 4 tanks of gas a week, I'll try to keep consumption down to save some green, but it ain't grass I'm worried about

Yeah, but it made all of 98 horsepower (maybe) and probably didn't even have (gasp!) AC or power windows. :poke:

The technology isn't the issue, it's the buyers. Sure, the auto manufacturers could probably build a 100 mpg vehicle, but then they have to sell it to someone and we are in the middle (or maybe end?) of another horsepower war. I bet even the guy shopping for the cheapest 4 cylinder hooptie is looking at the HP specs and influenced by the 0-60 time compared to the other cars in the same class. I know I would be.

i couldnt justify buying a brand new 100MPG car, compared to a 3 year old 30 MPG car
i know, someone must buy new car (hertz, perhaps?) but it aint me

I'm pretty happy with my 35 MPG six speed manual turbo Renegade.

...and it has better power to weight than a 318 duster.
 
I had my '70 Duster best 44.7 MPG on a strict mileage run, but still get near 40 daily driving. It had a mildly built 225, 2-bbl conversion, OD 4-speed, and something called the Power Plate under the carb. That plate not only boosted fuel economy, but it added a serious boost in power.

A/C is only necessary maybe 50 percent of the time or maybe in 50 percent of the places?
I live in the deap south and that is the case here.
Power windows are over rated as are cupholders.
So are cars that must lock the doors automatically.
( that kind of issue introduces the government into the problem, doesn't it?)
The rest of the comments just show my point.
 
people these days are too lazy to use a hand crank for windows, too lazy to operate a manual trans, the need a knob to turn to put the car in gear, and a button to push to start the car....I was peeved when they started putting electric switches in trucks for 4X4 I like the big lever coming out of the floor...of course realize I'm old...but the point is, all those gizmos make the car expensive and unserviceable for the average working fella or gal:)

Many years ago I used to go to this GM dealership to do work. The shop foreman told me back in 1952 they had sold a Chev with the regular 6 cyl and the guy reported he was getting 40 mpg. Turned out an experimental carb had been put on the engine. The guy was pissed when GM took the carb back and put on a regular one.
Should have kept is mouth shut LOL

Agreed, I have an electrical issue on my
GMC Sierra 4wd. I was told it would cost $1200 to fix
