I know some MOPARS had black out paint near the radiator core support so that you didn't see body color through the grills.
True for 69 Barracuda Formula S?

If yes, please post a photo or paint instruction for what areas should be black?

Thank you

All of it, from a 45 degree upwards angle.

Then install headlights and such

Free Hand and a bit messy looking, with Overspray is correct! I recommend this as it lays down very flat sheened and smooth.

The angle is not as important as the light application to allow shadowing? if that make sense.

Thank you.
I think I can handle the messy overspray look................ :)

Don't forget to hit the inner lips on the front Valance as well. That little detail helps the whole look! It is correct for your color as well mine.

The black out was applied to light and medium paint colors. It wasn't necessarily applied to dark paint colors like the dark forest green or navy blue, but it is definitely correct for the frost green and bright blue. It helps the grill pop, and it is really needed on the 67 and 68 with the big openings around the grill inserts. Just don't spoil the effect with a bright aluminum radiator <LOL>

When can we see some more pics of that car! I am very interested as being an owner of one the other 271 examples. This car has power steering as well yes?

Yes. Should be blacked out.

If you did a nice job on your underhood paint be sure to mask off all those radiator support holes from inside the engine compartment. The overspray might be original but IMHO it looks like crap ( but not as bad a having body color seen through the grille!).

i lay on my back & with a spray can i paint the whole thing the rad support, fenders head light area

I don't have a dog in this hunt.....but I THOUGHT we had a thread on this where it was pretty much proven that the behind the grille blackout was "hit and miss" and not all of them came like that. I guess I'm imagining that?

Do you miss it! I know you went E-Body.

I had so much fun building up my 71 that I really have not missed my 383-s alot, although it would have been nice to keep both of them. My very first Mopar and car was a 71 Cuda, so I have always been partial to them. Rod

I know a guy who did the job back in the day. It was an entry level job. As you can imagine, spraying paint upward from a pit with a wand like a weed sprayer was a pretty nasty job. So he said that if someone called in sick one of the first guys to leave their post to be a replacement was the core support painter. Depending on how fast the line was running or how hung over the guy was made the difference in what got sprayed. He said he was never checked on by a supervisor so some cars didn't get a very good spray job in his time before he got a job upgrade. If he went to fill in for someone else the other guy in the pit had to add the paint to his job. He said all were supposed to get painted but that is why some cars hardly got any black paint or were skipped.

Exactly. Great story. Some light colored cars didn't get painted. Some black or dark blue cars did. @68original's Barracuda has overspray on the underside of the hood so we know they were sprayed from underneath. I had read they used a thinned down undercoating and did spray it through a wand like a weed sprayer.

Well, since ToolManMike made the mention, see below for one example of factory applied black. As you can see, less than full coverage on parts, less than accurate spray patterns. It is definitely a flat black paint, not thinned undercoating. The last two pics are wheel wells showing undercoating at the bumper mount brackets.

And one more thing, the black paint on the front valance is not the same as the radiator support. The valance black is more of a semi gloss to gloss black, not flat black like the rest of the front area.

And no two car’s are alike! Great pics!
