What I meant was for purists to keep the critiques of our non purist cars to a minimum. You know the comments, your wiper motor should be satin black not semi-gloss type of stuff.

Agreed. I don't mind them telling me what it should be, but I'll decide what I spend my time and money on.

They are just cars. Yes so many are so far out of reach for me, but in the end, they are just cars to me. There is a place for everything. I love cars across the board. I have my 1971 GSS Demon with a tunnel rammed 440, 2 rat rods and building a 68 Charger NASCAR style. Have fun in whatever you like, stare at them in the garage or museum, race them, drive them to work every day, etc. As long as you are enjoying the time in your own way, that is the purist part of the hobby in my eyes. Does that make me a purist now?
Anywhere I can find some pics of your 68 NASCAR style charger? I have a 64 Galaxy xl500 I am thinking of building into a nascar clone.

Your car, your way.... Pick your flavor. But don't get your panties all up in a bunch if you hack up your baby and when it's time to resale you realize the Honeymoon is over and your idea of the ultimate Mopar ain't exactly what people are looking for lol....

In the same regard, don’t get your panties all up in a bunch when you pour $60,000 in to a restoration of an A body and when the honeymoon is over and you try to sell it you don’t get any offers over $20k

I can dig that galaxie, with the thunderbolt hood n all....hell yeah!
My older brothers first car. It’s been in our family 25 years now. Big block 4 speed car. It really is a damn cool old boat.

Day 2 for me!

That means original engine mods and wheels. Close to Stock but the little things you would do that you like!

Everyone can appreciate a nicely done over the top Mopar Monster though yes?

Better than original. ;)

Hot rodder here. I like to keep same manufacturers engines with the like cars tho. Just build them up the way I want. I'm not as picky with transmission or rears. Basically I don't follow any trends. I just build cars like I seen when I was a young boy or a teenager in school. I'm 54 now. When most people see any of my builds almost every time I hear "that's bad ***". I pretty much say it every time I go in the garage too. I like all kinds of cars. Muscle cars, gassers , traditional hot rods and even some foreign vintage sports cars.

90% hot rodder, 10% purist. On one hand,
I Think LS engine swaps into mopars are a joke, but i like my digital gauges....dont mind ford 9 inch rears, am fine with non factory paint colors, etc.

Another thing to consider is re-sale.

Everyone will buy close to stock to make their own, not everyone may want your individual creation!

I agree that resale is a big driving factor in today’s world. Not me. I’m only interested in what pleases me and my taste. I’ll never get back 1/4 of what I’ve put into building my jalopy. But that’s ok, it’s been great learning how to do things, how not to do things, meeting new folks and cruising around. If I start being concerned with what others think of me or my car, or what it’s going to be worth in the end, it takes the fun out of it for me and I’d probably just park it and walk away.

I never consider resale. Built for me by me. No limits but my own. I would never make money the way I do things.

I am using in the beginning stages of building it. Had shoulder surgery so I lost the last 6 months on it. I do have 2x4 square frame rails in from the B pillar back, next will be from there to the firewall.

I have a '68 Charger and I wouldn't think of changing anything major, inside or out. I think mother MOPAR got it perfect, visually. Second day wheels, mufflers that make noise, any suspension upgrades that make it handle better or stop better are fine with me. So I guess I'm 51% hot rod guy for my ride. I like seeing perfectly restored cars, but I'm not that anal when it comes to owning one. Numbers matching for me is my hope for the lottery. I like what I like, and it's mine to do what I like.

The reason I am ok with what I am doing with my 68 Charger is it was in a junkyard for 30+ years. There isn't much left. It needs most everything. I can build a chassis, have everything for the full cage, will use stock style rear leafs and front clip. I am trying to save something left for dead. It is a 318 AC car with everything stripped clean. It is a fun project and like the rat rods (not theme based clown cars) i can follow my own rules to some point. I am shooting for a semi period correct speedway car. 400 big block, 4spd OD and 3.91s in a 8.75.

What I find interesting about the LS swap guys is they think it's the no budget passage to going fast.... It's not. They are extremely well engineered powerplants and the aftermarket loves them but it still cost money to go fast. And I have seen them grenade like everything else. Just look up Rob Goss. IMO one of the trickiest classes in Drag racing today and he's getting it done with mother mopar lol.... Sure, he's spent a ton. But anything near him has whether LS or Pat Musi power.

I agree I am quite purist when it comes to the powerplant. I still applaud when a guy does an LS swap when he is having fun. His car...n all that. I have to admit that when I see the 350/350 swap into a 32 ford I do cringe a bit even though technically it was a 'period' effort. 'Period' meaning in the times dudes were hot rodding these, it seemed there was a lot of 350/350 swaps happening.
