Doing a bb rear main seal. Again. Bought a Hughes rear main seal retainer. Tried a few trial runs trying to get the side seals and retainer installed simultaneously but to no avail. I'm curious to see what you guys think of putting some light adhesive on the retainer side of the seals, let cure and then put the retainer in the freezer overnight to contract the aluminum? Oh yeah, the motor is still in the car with the trans bolted up. Thanks, jeff

Certainly worth a try! Thinking outside the box is what makes the world better! I like the cold and heat methods to get things done and has worked well for me!

Leave the side seals out and fill the voids with ultra black. Did U rotate the seal about 20*? Or do as the factory did it, oil the side seals then install the assambly. Kim

I had good luck with starting the side seals in the retainer and then inserting the retainer. When I inserted the retainer the seals would only slide in a little way so I would slide the retainer out a little and push everything in again. It took a few tries but I finally got them to seat.

I tried oiling up the seals. Would get the retainer close to seating and seals would push out a slight amount. Tried it about 10 x with the same result. That's why I was thinking if I could contract the retainer slightly in the freezer it may help slightly. If it doesn't work I have a caulking gun loaded with black Right Stuff like you suggest Kim

take all and slide off to one side as **** to where gap is 1/4 to one side or the other have 340 440 do as good .

me wrong u use i have more than u , but shift all seal joints past crank above or below. seal line . at any crank rear seal **** off to any side.

I did not use the side seals. Filled the area with silicon & left it cure. Then fitted the main seal with plenty of silicon on the sides/bottom of the retainer.

I agree. I've mentioned this before and almost gotten run out on a rail. lol

Thought about trying the fast fish seal. I didn't know if it work out with the motor in the car and trans bolted up. Damn tight getting in there doing it the regular way

I do apologize and thank you for your service!
Have you guys ever tried the FIP (form in place gasket) ? Its what the factory uses on modern engines that looks like silicon. That stuff sets up quick and doesnt shrink.

The way I have had success was to glue the two side pieces to the seal cap with the yellow 3m gorilla snot. Let them dry. That will prevent them from pushing out. I then offset seal ends. Install the seal cap with some sealeron the cap ends. I then use Silicone on the back side of the cap fill in the trench so to speak.

Gonna try this on my build. Thanks for posting.
