Has anyone here ever used undercoating on their k member after cleaning it up? If so how did it turn out? Is powder coating good and resistant to oils? If not what is your paint preferences? I'm just looking for something that'll be somewhat resistant to oils and such. PS I'm not building a rub... thanks

Powder coating should be good.. if you don’t want any fluids on the k member, make sure your engine is properly sealed

You could always paint it with Por-15, that **** will cover it nicely, and probably never come off.

I had mine powder coated almost 20 years ago and still looks good.It cost me $150 back then, might be a little more costly today but worth it.

Rust Bullet, powder coat in a can, looks good and easy to work with

Undercoating IMO would be a mistake, it will be effected by chemicals and has a sort of rough finish. You have been given a few ideas so choose what you want.

Powdered coated

I'd show you mine, but with a Gen2 hemi covering it not much to see.

I use Dupli-Color ceramic engine enamel. Holds up and is relatively cheap.

That stuff works great! I use it a lot. Probably more than I should. But it does hold up great, it looks good, and my car is a driver not a show car and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Undercoating would be a mistake. Powdercoating is super nice but I change my stuff and weld on it too much to spend money on powder coating I’ll have to grind off later. The ceramic engine paint is cheap, looks good enough, keeps everything from rusting and comes off easily enough if I decide I need a new gusset or bracket.

It’s a K-member. It’s under the engine. It’s a jacking point. If you use the car more than casually, it’s gonna get covered in oil. The factory left them bare, how many have you seen rusted out? Usually they develop a nice coating of protective grime.

Powdercoating a K member is like chroming an oil pan. Why?

I guess you haven't seen my car? I say push it to the limit. Do the best you possibly can on any part of the car.

I have removed paint from original k-members...

That apply to driving it? Because honestly if you’re not driving it close to 10k miles a year I don’t care how shiny the K member is.

I have seen them both ways, the one from my ‘71 GT was pretty much just natural. The original one from my ‘74 was definitely painted black, but, I couldn’t tell you if that was original.

I couldn’t tell you what the one on my Challenger is, it’s under so much grime I can’t tell. But as a Utah car that then went to Florida, I can tell you it is one of the few parts of the car that doesn’t have some measure of rust.

I used a high solids paint from omega industrial. That stuffs like iron in a spray can.

I have a 74 Scamp s6, original 47,000 miles.
I have a 340 and all parts needed for install, but
The engine mount kits are out of stock or no longer available. Message if you have a v8 k member a body for sale…
