I need to replace mine. What is the best new option? This is for a slant six 225. Thanks in advance. 1 bbl carb.

The best one I’ve ever used is the stromberg model W. No mating surfaces below the fuel level(doesn’t leak) and the castings are great.
You’ll have to search a little for one but it’s the only 1bbl carb I’ll put on a slant.

I don't know if there is a "new" option. Depending on the year, it might have had a Holley 1920, Holley 1945, or a Carter BBS. But I don't think any of those are available new. Mike's Carburetor has rebuild supplies, but my experience with rebuilding the Holleys has been poor — they seem to have a lot of very tiny passages that are impossible to clean out once they are gummed up or corroded. I have never had my hands on a BBS. I finally bit the bullet and went with a 2bbl setup using a new Carter BBD Chinese clone, and solved all of the drivability issues.

I'm in the same boat now. I have the 1971 Dart with the 225 and the Holley 1920. Well today I found a crack in the carb housing and it's pushing fuel out every time it's pumped. Only fix I know of is a replacement. I can't seem to find one worth the money. Rock Auto has some Autoline Reman and O'Reily's has something called a Tomco. Not good ratings on the Tomco and it's a special order. Any other sources you guys know of to find one? I've heard "switch to a Carter" and even some people telling me to go to injection...I'm saying no to that obviously. I've searched online but can't seem to find a 1920 that doesn't need to be rebuilt to start with. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

IIRC the Carter BBS was a "better" carb than the Holley but my 1920 worked quite well. I gave it to a member as his was jacked up internally. Dont be afraid of the eBay 1bbl knock-off carbs, ie Keihin or Nikki clones. Your only looking for a carb to support <125hp. Ie. many early 80s 4-6 bangers. Just figure out the linkage but there should be quite a few BBS available from members here.

Trying to stay as original as possible. I realize not easily done anymore, but I don't want to go EFI on my 71
Several experiences with Tomco rebuilds were play in the throttle shaft. A Tomco might work well for you if you plan on having it re-bushed.

I didn't go with the Tomco. I ordered an Autoline from Rockauto. Will see. It has nothing but great reviews from what I can find. Will know more in a week.

What about places like Clifford Performance that specialise in inline 6 engines? A Weber conversion?

Let us know how it works out, if You search for "Daytona carburetor" here &/or online, I thought They had new replacement carbs.

Weber conversions were for 2bbl manifolds. Redline is way overpriced when the same clone carbs are $89 on Ebay. Seriously, the Ebay clone carbs work great. If your looking for original, must buy used and rebuild yourself with a newly bushed shaft. a few members here can do that for you.

Like everything else, there are Chinese versions of Webers. Unless they have changed, Redline only sells genuine Ws & well worth the money. They have always been expensive carbs because of the quality & precision. Many models have the throttle shafts mounted on ball races for long life, that is what you are paying for.

SSD posted about the carbs from Daytona, they are Argentinean CARESA carbs, good carbs marked up a bunch tho'.

Oh, & they have an externally adjustable main circuit, may come in handy with the variety of gas/alcohol ratios out there for sure.

I went thru the replacement carb ordeal a couple years ago. My '67 Dart came with a 1920 but got so it wouldn't idle worth squat no matter what I did. Against everything I'd read here I tried the rebuilt route...one (only one they had) from Rock Auto and several Tomcos from O'Reilly. All were junk. Parts missing, incorrectly assembled, leaked, stripped fuel inlet, you name it. Ran like crap if at all. Poor store manager at O'Reilly's dreaded me coming thru the door.
Finally gave up on rebuilts, and was able to find a NOS BBS online (for less than a poorly rebuilt 1920 cost). Had to modify the kickdown linkage a bit, but the old girl runs like new again!
