Why is it a secret? Because they know it is laughably overpriced? When I go in Shop Rite or Publix I dont have to ask for the meat manager to see how much a steak is. It's right on the label. Why do classic car dealers make you go to this level of annoyance? If you buy the car, and that is the goal of the dealer, eventually the secret will be revealed, and you will find out the price. Rant over.

When you call they will say...

"we just sold that one but we have one similar you'll want to come look at, what time will you be here?"

My life rule is if you don't post a price you are asking more than I am willing to pay.

I see cars on the street with for sale signs and a phone number. Why would I waste my time calling only to find out the seller is delusional about the value of their car.

Just walk on by!

My next favorite is “what kind of car payment do you want”. My answer is usually $100. Or how is your credit, to which I usually say , I don’t need credit.

It is amazing how many people don’t seem to care what it costs as long as it does not cost too much at one time.

What seems to upset "potential buyers" who most of the time are just "curious " is the gaul of the seller and his "demands". Sure its annoying but it's no more so than the it's "rare" hook.

How about when looking at a used crew cab diesel dually, at a dealership, not being able to get a price? Salesman and the "sales manager" kept wanting me to make an offer. So I did. Offered $500. They got very upset. Said the tires alone were worth mor then that. I replied "you wanted an offer, now lets hear your counter offer". Never did get a price from then. Called them a bunch of dickheads, and walked out.

I understand salesmen do it to generate traffic so it looks like they’re accomplishing something in order to keep their job. But it’s worse when the seller is an individual. Why would any seller want to be getting texts, emails and phone calls from every dreamer, scammer and clueless dumbass wasting your time?

You sound like me, LOL

Much like employers who don't state the salary of advertised jobs.... why would I waste my time sending a resume and attending an interview only to find out they're looking for slave labour?

I have a low tolerance for car salesmen, so when I was shopping for a new truck I v-e-r-y clearly told him to give me his best price, and that I was specifically NOT going to play the ping-pong game as he went to his supervisor, then the manager, then the sales manager, then the general manager, all fiddle farting around on the price. He gave me a price, I told him it was higher than I wanted to pay. He said just a minute, let me go check with my sales manager. He came back and the price was the same so I said thanks and got up to go. He says wait! I'll talk to the general manager! I walked out with both of them chasing me across the parking lot wanting to continue the negotiations. I had to resort to the kind of language that is impossible to misunderstand, to make sure they knew why I was taking my business elsewhere. Stupid ***** that don't understand plain English...

If I could afford to buy a new car, I have a sales manager that gives the lowest prices around. They like volume at their dealership, not hokey sales gimmicks. Got my ex a deal on her Cherokee she had to have, expensive little bugger!

I applied for a job that posted $16 hr
At the interview they said $11 hr adding that there must have been a misprint!!

On the plus side, all the info on the internet has made it easier to prepare your self for the experience. Carfax is great, but the one some dealers use has a lot less info, I have learned.

The last couple used cars I bought, I cut the deal over the phone before I went to the dealer. When I got there all I had to do was drive it. If they won’t talk over the phone, I don’t waste my time.

Last time I bought from a dealer I made 1 offer, and wrote it down in plain English, FINAL OFFER. The dealer agreed, but still tried to sell me the extended warranty and all that bs.
