I use Dupli-Color ceramic engine enamel. Holds up and is relatively cheap.

That stuff works great! I use it a lot. Probably more than I should. But it does hold up great, it looks good, and my car is a driver not a show car and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Undercoating would be a mistake. Powdercoating is super nice but I change my stuff and weld on it too much to spend money on powder coating I’ll have to grind off later. The ceramic engine paint is cheap, looks good enough, keeps everything from rusting and comes off easily enough if I decide I need a new gusset or bracket.
