I recently installed a 8 3/4 third member from doctor diff. His 3rd members have the larger u joint yolk. My drive shaft has the smaller yolk. I used the adapter u joint also from dr diff but would really like to change my drive shaft yolk from the small to the large to match the third member. Does anyone have a source for the larger yolk. I tired dr diff but he must be extremely busy as I got no return call or email

Thanks

There is a conversion u joint available. I don't have the number handy but you should be able to search for it here.

There are billet yokes available, as rearend input yokes, and slip yokes for the trans end. The weld-on ends for a driveshaft, not so much.
You will probably have to have a driveshaft shop supply the weld yoke, to weld into your shaft. If they havent got a source for the weld yoke, you may have to find a shaft with the weld end to scavenge for your shaft.

Nothing wrong with the conversion joint....they are used in dirt track racing everyday.

I had a hell of a time getting it to line up on the drive shaft. I had to go and buy another regular 7260 u joint just to get clips that work as i had the clips fall off 2 different times while i was driving!. I have also been told by many that the conversion joint is not too good to use with 450 plus hp. I would rather play it safer and just swap out the rear yolk on the driveshaft.

You find it. Most drive line shops would have them in stock. You want to ensure you know what u joint size your running. 7260,7290,1330,1350. I changed the slip yolk and diff to 1350.

Think about where the weakest link is. If your running a 1350 on the diff side but are running a 7290 on the trans/slip yolk side, what may break first? Dropping the drive line on the trans side is way worse than dropping on the diff side...

This looks like one of those projects that you will be wishing you “left well enough alone “ before you are done....

Usually any local drivetrain shop can do what you want. They usually are advertised as HD truck shops but they build shafts and sell parts.
