Cold Case 26in Rad fitment

-
I will eventually like to run an aluminum radiator in my 73 Valiant, and even more when I build a 408 Stroker. What is the best close to bolt in setup that can run a factory 26 rad shroud with maybe a flex fan since the Hayden low profile clutch would not work with a champion or CC radiator. I defiantly do not want to run any electric fans. See cars that cruse at the cars and coffee that have electric fans and its not a great sound when it overpowers the engine.

I just ordered the Engineered Cooling Products 26” radiator. I’ve read good reviews on it where a short fan clutch was used. The specs are on the speedcooling.com website. The website says it’s out of stock but if you call the number you can order it. The website hasn’t been updated.

That’s the radiator I have. I don’t think I can get any clutch fan in there.

I don’t understand the lack of clearance for the Hayden 2947. Is there a difference between the design of the 22 and 26 radiators? How they fit in the car? Or is it a function of the year of the car? My cold case 22 radiator and Hayden 2947 fit well in my 69 barracuda. I probably have 3/4 inch clearance from the radiator to the fan. I am running a 360 with the aluminum (70 & up) water pump and 7 blade fan.

I think the 2947 clutch should work with all small blocks. That’s why Hayden began to manufacture them strictly for small block Mopars to fit the thicker radiators...specifically 2 row 1.25” resulting in a 3” thick unit...ie coldcase. At least from what I’ve read on other forums as well as here. That’s one of the reasons I decided to go that way as I didn’t want to run an electric fan. If I had to go to a direct drive fan I would have.

I thought it would work but here is what I ran into with a Cold case radiator ordered the Hadyen clutch and there is no way it was going to work. Like Go-fish said the way the CC rad and Campion rad brackets are fixed make the Rad stick out towards the engine too much. Here's the amount of space I had with the rad in the car. not sure if there is something different with 73+ cars

This is why I created this post. After reading different radiator installations most said that the Hayden clutch would work and it will not. Im going to wait and see what go-fish finds out with the Rad he ordered. But to all trying to install a Cold case MOP750A in a 73+ abody will probably have to use a flex fan or electric fans.

Yup. That’s a fact.

I will be trying this radiator 26" Small Block Mopar Radiator in a 1973 340 4 speed Duster. It is 1-1/4" wider than the Cold Case 26" rad. The CC is 24.3" and the Engineered Cooling Products is 25.5" wide. The ECP is 1/8' taller and wider on the overall W x H.
Currently I only have a non-clutch fan and will be ordering a Hayden 2947 today. Anybody have a link to a fan to use?
Radiator should be here next week. $316 - shipped. They have flat rate shipping. The price of the radiator is around $277 + tax. My cc was charged by Entropy Radiators in Florida. I looked at Entropy Radiators website and they don't have any item such as this. They make $1000 + radiators. Maybe ECP is their 'budget" brand?

Check with Forum member RatRodAl he my have a fan for ya.
I use a clutch style 18 inch 7 blade Mopar fan, works like a dream.

Damn...that’s tight.

Is the rad up against the cradle ? if not u can remake brackets , I had to for my 28x19 griffin crossflow ---

Its against where it would mount like a factory, only problem was the top 2 holes would need to be drilled out. Sure you can remake the brackets if you have fabricating skills but I was told by CC that it would work, without modification and with the factory shroud. Both were incorrect and why I sent it back. If they want to sponsor here, hopefully they will come up with a 26 in rad that will be direct fit for our A bodies.

I will gladly send them this 26” core if I can get a radiator in return.

Got the radiator in and installed. Had to drill two holes in the radiator flange to match up to my core support. The lower bolts didn't quite match up either but since the washer is big they clamp down on the radiator flange. I called the number on the Engineered Cooling Products page and left a message. They are supposed to be in Chicago. I got a call back from a guy in Florida with Entropy Radiators. The billing and the packaging said entropy. Guess they bought them or something? The guy said the website was wrong and the Small Mopar 26" is in stock. Just have to call.

The radiator core is actually 24.5" not 26" Kind of bummed about that but Cold Case's 26" radiator isn't 26" either. The fins on the engine side looked a little beat up but the grille side looked fine. Nothing that would affect operation. I was thinking about painting it but don't want it to flake later and look cheezy so I'm just going to leave it bare.

I was going to buy a new 2947 but one popped up on here and it should be here in a few days. Thanks @PredaFran ! I was going to wait till that came in to post pics. I did mount up a non-thermal clutch that is 2.75" tall and it fit with 1.5" to spare.

I bought a b-body shroud for a 26" radiator. It's mounting holes are a little wide and I don't know if the fan hole will be in the right spot but it was $40 so I'm taking a chance. If it doesn't work my Dad's b-body needs a shroud so I will give it to him. It's being shipped so it'll be here later.

I am ordering a Derale 6 blade fan. This one: Derale Cooling Products 17118 Derale Clutch Fans | Summit Racing

Hopefully I'll have pics of the 2947, the Derale fan, and the radiator clearance early next week.
