Am I justified in my frustration?

Wow?……Really?…. I thought this was over with? Now you go on a public form and cry some more?? You are truly a class act.

Not one to hide behind an alias my name is Troy Bray. I have sold Mopar performance parts for over 20 years. I have sponsored many Stock and Super Stock race cars including a world champion. I have restored numerous show winning cars including 1970 Challenger T/A, A12 Road Runner, 1968 Super Stock Hemi Dart clone and my latest is 1968 Super Stock Hemi Barracuda clone. I am telling you all this because to me integrity is everything. Honesty and reputation or everything. Without it you’re nothing.

I would like to share my experience with Mr. John Carter AKA “Go Fish” so hopefully nobody else has to go through the same experience that I did.

I purchased a stash of parts from a good friend of mine. In this allotment of parts was this differential. I had no back story on it. I did know that the pinion was stuck but I did not know why it was stuck. One of the axles was out of it so I slid in the axle and tapped it into place. Went in a little hard but I did not have to slam it into place.

I attended the Inland Mopar show two weeks ago (by the way, a very good show, good job guys!) to sell some misc parts. One item in particular was a B body 8 3/4” rear end. This assembly included Housing, 489 third member, Pinion snubber, 10” backing plates and axles. I priced it at $350. On the price tag I wrote “ rebuildable core”. John came up to me early in the morning and said “ I’ll take it” While I was collecting the money I verbally told him it was a “REBUILDABLE CORE” and he acknowledged me and understood what I said. He never looked closely at it, never tried to spin the axles or pinion….nothing, just walked away. At the end of the day the differential was still in my spot so I took it over to his swap spot and left it for him.

A few days later John gets in touch with Steve Wall complaining to him that the differential is junk and can’t believe that a CPW member (Chrysler performance west car club) member was selling “junk parts”. After a few more days Steve forwards me the emails that John sent him asking me to get in touch with John and see what I can do…..so I did. I introduced myself. Myself, not knowing his automotive knowledge I explained to him the process in removing stuck axles and sent him a picture of the correct slid hammer to use. He explained to me that he tried all that and it still would not budge. A day later in an Email he said he got one of the axles out but the other axle is still stuck. He found a lot of debris inside the housing….like a mouse had made a home inside the tube. In the pictures he sent me I saw no rust, no metal chips, no ring gear teeth…..nothing but grass, seeds and mouse poop. He started telling me that “I have no integrity and I should refund him $250”

I explained and reminded him that he purchased a complete rear ended for $350 and it needed to be rebuilt. Never did I say it was a “functioning“ diff that needs to be cleaned up…..I said rebuildable core.

After 16 emails back and forth…. Listening to him insult me, questioning my integrity and insulting the car club that I have helped run for 35 years, I offered him $100.00 refund. I told him that if you except this refund then this case is closed. He took the refund and agreed the case is closed AND NOW I see that he is on a public forum crying to everybody.

Just to finalize the situation John paid $250 for the following.
B body 8 3/4” housing.
Pinion snubber
Two 10” backing plates
489 case
Two axles
All of this for $250 and he is still not happy….wow.

That is everything, I have nothing to hide.
