Hyundai warranty

And I will add, ZERO engine maintenance other than oil changes, and I changed one injector out(#3)at 200k? And as it turns out after I changed it, I could have bought the injector cheaper from dealership. I assumed aftermarket would be cheaper but found out after I changed itnwasnt. Only brakes and bearings, that's all i have done so far(fingers crossed)
I had a 2007 Hyundai Tiburon (small 2 door sport car) for about 3 years. I really like that car. It was the only new car I had ever never needed warranty work. I am impressed with Hyundais.

My sister had a Hyundai Sante Fe for a time. She liked it except for the crappy mileage then she traded it for......wait for it.........a 4x4 Jeep Wrangler. LMAO

My wife had a 1st gen Hyundai (Korean built Mitsubishi clone) and she hated it, got rid of it when it had...340,000 miles in it! I was like, "You put 340K on it, how bad could it have been???" she said it overheated the 2nd month they had it driving up the Sepulveda pass (1100 foot elevation) in LA with the A/C on. They are so much better now.

My 96 Plymouth 2.0 Breeze blew a head gasket, stealership replaced it for $70, parts only. ......Yup, a internal bulletin stated the head gaskets were prone to fail, just replace them. Our 93 Lexus SC400 with 189K runs so good its scary. Front suspension has a clunk in it when its cold (LCA's are non serviceable, $$$) but its pretty freaking solid for a 29 year old import. Paint is shot but with its new tires, it feels like its riding on rails again. Would not mind that 32V cammer in my Barracuda! You still have to look at the tach to realize its idling.

I've had my eye on the Kia Telluride since they came out. Approximately 2/3 the cost of a similarly appointed SUV of other manufacture. Ordered one in 2019 and even put the down payment on it but then had a job change and had to cancel. They actually gave my down payment back.

Did your 4 Runner have the V6 or the 22RE 4 cylinder? Those V6’s were famous for head gasket leaks.
It had the V6. But after doing head gaskets 3 times before that, I knew what a blown head gasket was (steam out the tail pipe and a funky smell). When the dealer told me it was another blown head gasket, I told him that he was wrong. But he said it didn’t matter - would I turn down a free engine? I said go for it. The real problem the engine had was the knock sensor harness had corrosion on the connectors (under the intake manifold). The problem showed up again with the new engine. I changed the knock sensor on my own and the problem was finally resolved (because I cleaned the corrosion off of the connectors). I sold that car to my neighbor and they drove it for another 100K miles before giving it to their son. He drove it for another 75K and then sold it for what I sold it to my neighbor for originally. That SUV really held its value!

So finally got to drop off wife's car. Spoke with Warranty advisor as well as mechanic that will be installing "it".
So they install shortblock, new oil pan with new oil pump. New timing chain tensioner(inspect and reuse if possible old chain) and a complete new gasket set of course. All externals, water pump, alt, starter, head intake are reused, BUT are inspected prior to installing. Warranty advisor mentioned in most cases they have been able to reuse all the externals. In 1 case a head had to be replaced but was able to do so under warranty.
Fingers crossed lol.
Pic of goodies lol.

We have had two Hyundai's Sonatas since 2012 and we had great luck with both. Our daughter lived a thousand miles away and we visited several times a year. Each had around 140,000 miles when we sold them and other than brakes/tires and oil changes, not any problems at all.

Hi Steve.
Our secretary at work has a 2013 Hyundai e that has a engine rattle/Knock, her mechanic said she needs a new engine, $$$$ only 100 + km,
So after reading your post I insisted she take it into Hyundai and see what they could do.
Long story short , she got a new short block and her AC repaired ( hi side condenser line) for under 400$..
She wanted me to thank you...
Thanks Darren

Hey Darren, glad to read, and I'll pass the thanks on to Lori. She is ultimately the one to discover this issue. So her car has been repaired? Glad she got her issue resolved.
As for engine fires, all I've read is a LOT of vehicles recalled, ZERO injuries and ZERO deaths obviously.
There are a TON of recalls in history with injuries and deaths....Hyundai apparently isnt one in this case.
If all goes well with this repair, we WILL be back.

Yes her Car has already been repaired and running great.. I haven't personally read the recall. I just read your post and told her to take it in to Hyundai for the hell of it..
Thanks Again.
Steve
It would be Nice if the Leafs had some of that luck.. lol

Good for her! Glad some good came of this thread. The Leafs are running outta luck AND fans lol.
Cheers!

Crap in the crankshaft oil galleys and it takes over 50k for that stuff to work its way out and foul the bearings? Chrysler Tigershark motor had similar lubrication issues: made in USA.

same here ! 2 weeks ago a friends of my father as is engine stop....seized engine.I told him to send it to the local dealer .2010 sonata..... he was very happy brand new short block a no cost.

I forgot to add that we are on our 4th
Hyundai. A 2004, 2006, 2008, Elantra and our current 2014 Sonata . Other than wear items everyone has to replace, we only replaced two alternators in the span of over 500,000 combined miles. When the time comes we will buy another Hyundai. I wish I had the money back I spent on extended warranties. I guess you pay one way or another.
