I’m getting ready to put my 360 LA back together after a front end tear down to do the water pump and timing set. The fan on the left is the one that was on the (relatively new to me) car. The one on the right has one more blade (came off a ‘67 273) and will fit. Seems to me 6 blades are better than 5, but what do I know. Any advantage to either one? Thanks.

Jeez nevermind. The old 6 blade won’t fit after all. Sorry for the unnecessary thread. I really wish we could delete them. D’oh!!

You can!

Obviously the left fan is for a viscous unit and the right is just full spin. Best thing I ever did was going back to 7 blade stock straight with correct spacer and shroud. My car loves it!

So obviously I don’t know much about fans. I assume viscous means clutch, but the car has no fan clutch. Should I look for a 7 blade? What would be the harm keeping as is? It has an aluminum radiator and seems to be cooling fine, but I haven’t had the car long or driven in stupid hot weather yet.

Also, how do you delete a thread? I know you can delete comments, but I’ve never been able to figure out how to delete a thread. Thanks.

Send a PM to the mods! Titled please delete this thread.

I tried viscous ”Clutch” , electric pusher and puller setups and more with even 26” radiators. Went back to full stock based on the shop and parts manual. All the correct parts work the best! JMO!

I would not ask for it be deleted though!

You may get some good responses that may help you to decide what is best for you! Just take the time to weigh them out!

There are a few things that effect fans

  1. The number of blades
  2. The pitch of the blades
  3. The outer diameter of the fan
  4. The width of the blades
  5. The length of the blades
  6. Lastly, does it fit your water pump or clutch setup
I agree with 1969383S that the stock setups were designed by engineers and tested. They worked fine for 50+ years.

If you have increased the heat output if your engine then adding cooling by installing a more efficient core should take care of it.

The 5 blade fan should move more air due to the weird design and the viscous is the fluid in the clutch unit. They should be used together.

The fan diameter should fit the shroud being used.

Nothing wrong with your thread and nothing wrong with asking questions . No one on here knows it all and many are willing to provide sound advice. Just ignore the flamers like the rest of us do and keep posting. I already learned something from your thread!

Cheers!!

I`m having trouble seeing the 5 blade move more air , would like to see proof.
Back in the day , they were for killing fan noise on reg. engines , never saw a hemi or 440 come out w/ 5 blade fan , have you ??
Both the 426 hemi`s I had came out with viscous drive 7 blade fans !

Thanks. So the car did not have a fan clutch or a shroud, and I am not inclined to put a clutch on it, so I am probably going to ditch the 5 blade fan. I did realize that I can adapt the old 6 blade, so I think I'm going to paint it and give it a try. I also ordered a shroud.

Experimenting is fun and fruitful ,I played with diff. fans all summer last yr. , a fixed fan is worth about 7-8 degrees on my 505 wedge.
I am running a clutch type 17'' , 7 blade , have an 18'' on the bench , if needed .
3 DIFF. COMBINATIONS OF ELEC FANS WOULDNT WORK FOR ME EITHER !

So, it seems like your calling me out as a lier and ask for proof on actually seeing an invisible gas movement. Or other proof. I get more blades move more air. It makes sense. If you would like to argue the merits of the fans and hopefully get proof, I would take up the fight with MoPar themselves. I can only tell you what I was told from a few sources and the people that I believe that have been there and done that themselves. I for one can only state that I myself have made the exact move described above from a 6 blade fan to the 5 blade MP viscous fan where I could not help notice the air movement difference which was first noted by my wife when she said “Holy ****! Come here and check this **** out!”

The car had difficulty cooling. The only change was the fan. Never an issue after that. How the physics of air movement and fans work is above my pay grade. Check with your local scientists and engineers.

That’s my testimony and I’m sticking to it.

I don’t give a flying F#>%€^!!! What was stock and I don’t accept that as proof of the stock OE material being best or bullet proof.

If you think I’m a lier, OK, fine, I can only tell you what I experienced. Thank have nothing to gain through lies. I’m here to help, not gloat. Not sell parts. Not make money. Etc….

Go for it! What ever works is what you use.
Good move on the shroud.

Dam boy, I never called u a liar , simply cannot see the less blades moving more air .
the hemi`s and h.p 440`s needed about all they could get , the ones I had ALL had 7 blade fans on them for some reason .
Guess I`ll have to dig a 5 blade up to test now --------------like the old boys from Mo. , gotta show me .
PS , I dont care weather u giver a flyin ---- or not! !!

uh , ok .
No worries my man. It’s reading text with assumed tone or intent. When I’m speaking directly from my mind to the key board… It’s a problem, I know, no offense ment.
