Working on the brakes of my 69 swinger. For some reason i decided to replace all of my hard lines. I bought a new proportioning valve from in line tube and it leaks where the front brakes feed into it from the MC. Not from the line itself, but the fitting that goes between the block and the fitting that feeds into it. It looks like a copper o-ring in there.

Anybody had this problem? How do I fix it?

Thanks

They all seem to leak, repro junk. Posting a WTB for an OE one would be my solution. You sure it's a Proportioning valve or just a distribution block?

call inline tube and ask for a replacement. Sellers need to know this stuff to up their quality.

Did you use backup tube fitting wrenches when tightening your lines. you might have loosened the fitting.

It is leaking right below the hex nut on top of valve. Factory stuff is always better then anything "new".

Sent an E-mail to in-line tube asking for a new one. Used flair wrenches to tighten it up.

When you say back-up wrench do you mean like tightening the wrenches against each other?

Might try the back off and tighten and back off and tighten method or the one wrench attached to another for maximum stripping.

I ordered from in line tube the1st 2nd and 3rd leaked all from the same place when I called back on the 3rd one they told me they are having issues with the tooling which is done in china so they credited my card back so I rebuilt mine I will find the address for the rebuild kits

Thanks 74 Dart for the info. That sucks that they are all crap. Looks like rebuilding it is the answer here. I tightened the **** out of it and it still leaked. Maybe I will try replacing the copper o-ring. This is frustrating!

Send me over that addy when you get a chance.

Thanks

Look at your original and see if it is a kelsey hayes or the weatherhead valve the look identical but internally they have different springs the Kelsey hayes will be marked with kh the weatherhead will be marked with wh w on top of the h k on top of h

I was replacing the original drum brake valve with one for front discs. So, I don't know what to do now. If you have a good used one let me know. I was really hoping to put the engine back in this week.

Thanks 74 Dart for the info and help. I placed an ad for a weather head valve. It would be what mother Mopar wanted. Brakes are kinda important.

I am having the exact same issue with my re-pop proportion valve. From what I'm hearing the copper washers are too hard to seal up properly. I watched a video on YouTube where you can heat up the copper washer then let it cool to make it softer to seal up better. It's called " annealing "..

You have to tighten and loosen the connections a few times! These are all new parts! Use the correct tube wrench, I went through this years ago and you just have to expect some minor issues. Inline tubes makes some great stuff for us. JMO!

And what do you call a proportioning valve? All 69 A-Body cars had a distribution valve. Disc Brake cars had a separate hold-off valve on the rear line!

Being a 69 that was a smart move!

Annealing copper requires quenching. I know, sounds wrong.

This a typical 69 Disc setup.

Some folks up-fit to a 71/2 up Combo valve. The rear most valve is the hold off. 71/2 up combined that valve into the distribution valve. Some call it a Texas valve due to its shape.

The second pic is a Factory 69 BB set-up!

Last pic was the later type combo valve I incorrectly ordered for my application. Be aware that the combo valve does not work well with lines ordered for a 69 car!

For 71 Dodge Demon. Mine is leaking from the octagon shaped fitting where it connects to the main body. The copper washer isn't sealing. Loosened it and snugged it a couple of times. Still leaks.

I put it there because all the aftermarket is not what you say.

And Yes I hate getting the Red X as well.

This is not the late 60's or early 70's. Our country screwed up sending all the machines out for others to make what we want!
