Here I'll help. I speak big dummy sometimes. I think he got an estimate to have a garden tub taken out and a shower installed in it's place from "Western Shores Homes" and it was $14,750. He nearly fell out of his chair because a ******** is cheaper. I may have lost something in the translation and take no responsibility for errors on my part. But I think that's pretty close.

So...what is a garden tub?

(I'd Google I'd but I'm afraid of what pictures it would bring up...I can hear the banjos allready)

I had my old steel tub from the Fiftys taken out and I walk in shower installed.
Priced out the materials to do it myself.
Only $ 2,300.00 more to have it done.
Best money I ever spent.
There price included all plumbing work.
When they pulled the tub they discovered the house heater pipes ran thru behind it.
They had to redo plumbing on there dime.
Like I said best money I ever spent.

Thanks brother. It was for a removal of a garden tub and replace it with a shower. The shower I currently was going to be converted to a closet

to what purpose are you replacing it?

Oh this should be fun. Lets see if I can translate before the message hits the airwaves. Maybe something like this: The wife and I are getting older and we don't so much like stepping over the edge of the tub anymore. Showers do just fine. A slip and fall in such a tub can be dangerous. It's difficult to reach across that big old tub and keep it clean also. But for $14,750 they can kiss my grits.

Thanks again......Old age is creeping up and I'm still dumb!!!!!Falling and breaking stuff don't help either. It was a long way on my 18 wheeler!

well, now that in know what your fixing on doing

here is a thought

when my mother in law (who lives with us) got out of the ICU back in december, i had a "door" installed in her bathtub
it cost around $800 installed, i believe and we love it

with the door installed, the kids can still take baths and run the water up as high as the upper drain
but with the door removed, the threshold to get into the tub is only 12 inches or so

I agree with this to a great extent. Oil change on my RV is $150 if I do it, and $180 if the Mercedes dealer does it. For $30 I'm not crawling under the thing and getting my hands dirty. However, sometimes one has to say no. A few years ago in the late fall, a good friend got an estimate of $12,000 to replace a deck. It was a deck on a house with a walk out basement, so the deck was level with the main floor and about 9 feet above the ground out back. I told my friend that if he could wait until spring, I would help him build one. It took us about a month, but total cost was $2500, and I doubt if it would have looked better if built by the pros.
