Tomorrow, June 12, My wife and I celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We have had an exciting life so far. We got married in 1971, and I graduated from college in 1973 via USAF ROTC with a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. We went to flight training at Webb AFB in Big spring Texas. The town was small and quiet, but the people were SO friendly. Then we went to Mather AFB in Sacramento CA. Then Little Rock AFB. Then Mather AFB again. Then 3 years in a Special Ops unit in Germany. Then Little Rock again. Then McGuire AFB in New Jersey. Then Little Rock again. Three times at Little Rock. It is the world's largest C-130 base. There are two active C-130 units there, and two training units. While in Germany we traveled ALL around Europe in our 1979 VW Westfalia Camper. Our oldest daughter remembers it all, and our youngest daughter remembers some of it. We hit almost every country in Western Europe, and we visited East Berlin Several times. Plus we have seen almost every state together. When the girls were younger, we had a Coleman pop-up camper. We had some amazing memories in that. I dragged my wife and daughters all around the world for 20 years. I was gone for a whole year twice, and I was TDY (temporary duty somewhere else) for thousands of days. My wife was a real trooper to deal with that. It seemed like I was always gone when something big happened. I retired from the USAF as a Major in 1993. I worked at the federal Home Loan Bank and retired from there in 2015. Karen worked as a teacher for many . She runs into adults all the time who remember her. We are both retired now, and we enjoy traveling in our RV, cruising in the 69 Barracuda, going to Car Shows, and spending time with the two daughters and grandchildren. Here is a picture of the gift our daughters got for us. it is a collage made up of map pieces showing all the places we have lived. What a blessing to spend 50 years married to your best friend.
