Where do I find a good fuel sending unit gasket for 65 Valiant / Barracuda? Also I need to replace the universal joints. I don’t have an original drive train so there is no ball and reunion front universal joint in the car anymore. Where’s the best place to get aftermarket joints? I don’t trust the local AutoZone or any other auto parts store anymore.

You can try Rock Auto or see if there may be a mom/ pop auto store left near you .We have one local store close. They dont look at you crazy when you say 66 Barracuda.

Napa for the u joints or summit racing- they are probably all made by the same manufacturer anyways

I get the gasket from summit or rock auto

Rock auto does have the sender gaskets with lock ring, but they are very expensive

I have found the SPECTRA PREMIUM is very good quality. Now if things have changed in the last 5 years, like they are now made in china it could be different.

It is a newer gas tank, but the tank has been on the car for over 10 years and was sealing well for most of it’s life. Now that I have had the tank taken off and cleaned out and put back together and the gas lines cleaned out from sitting too long, gas wants to leak out of the sending unit if I put in more than 5 gallons. So, my troop ring seems to work well. I just need to get a new gasket as many of you have suggested. Yes, Rusty.

I thought we talked about this already. Was my answer not good enough?

Don't bet the farm on it. I got caught up in all the discussions about the locking ring thickness. I had several rings and a gasket for each ring. So I ordered a gasket from DMT thinking I was getting the best. The gasket from DMT was THINNER than any of the other gaskets. I put a micrometer on it. As the saying goes, "Trust but Verify."

I guess we'll see when I fill it with gas for the first time next week since putting in a new tank and assorted parts. At least I sourced an OEM lock ring, so that's something lol.

Everything else I have purchased from then has been top notch though.

So where did the thickest and best gasket come from?

From the other sources like with the Spectra tank and with the Spectra sending unit. They were the same thickness. In addition my original 1967 locking ring was about the same thickness as the Spectra replacement. Then a couple of years ago I went to a local Mopar show and a guy was selling new repo rings. This ring was definitely thicker; you could tell by the feel of it through the cellophane wrapper.

For best results, measure your old ring/gasket and your new ring/gasket, and install it with the tank off the car to see that it fits properly.
