Need to verify the correct factory locations of this exhaust manifold hardware. Thanks for the help.

I know the outer 4 corners take the studs.

from what i remember from installing them on the dart years ago it was pretty obvious looking at the manifold.

Yes, I figured that. However, I asked the question because sometime in the past I seen posted said the factory correct installation did not use all of the cup washers that come with this kit.

The Duster 340 I'm working on is pretty much original, other than the headers I removed, so I wanted to be sure I did it right. Thanks.

think i used the washers on all the short bolts and studs. tired to get pics but driver side is too hard to get.

studs go at the ends on both sides - I have no idea why they sent you 6. They are there because they go into the water jacket and you don't want to have to drain the water to remove the exhaust manifold. Use thread sealer when installing studs!!! Long bolts with long shoulders go in the sleeves as shown in pictures.

took me a little bit to figure but there are 12 bolts/studs in a set and the picture shows 14 so the 5th and 6th stud are simply extra. The long shoulder bolt are only on the passenger side.

oops, forgot to say that the long shoulder bolts are the only ones that don't use a conical washer. Never-seize on all the bolts!

The kit makes sense, now. The two "long shoulder bolts" are actually nuts and will require the other two studs. All bolts (6) and regular nuts (4) will use the cupped washers (10).

Other than the 4 corner studs in the water jacket, should I apply anti-seize to all the other threads?

Great thanks for the posted pictures.

The other 2 studs go with the sleeve nuts.

Good catch!!! The sets that I have bought they are already in the long shoulder bolt (or maybe made in one piece) - I assume that you should locktite them into the bolt/nut and then use never-seize on the end going into head. You sure wouldn't want to have that stud stay in the head when you went to remove them

I don’t believe the cupped washers are used under the nuts only the bolts.

Kim has it right - no washer under the long shoulder bolt/nuts that go in the sleeves - nowhere for it to go! Always conical washers on the end studs - the conical washers distribute the force on the cast iron ears and keep you from breaking them off

Just did this install on ‘68 340 and here’s the skinny.

Both side heads get the studs in all the end holes, 4 total, these go into the cooling system so put some quality liquid thread sealer on them during install and the get installed till the shoulder is seated.

The other two studs are installed in the passenger head on the two end ports, no coolant here so a dab of anti seize and tighten to the shoulder.

All the nuts and bolts get the conical washers except the two barrel bolts for obvious reasons.

Don’t forget to torque all your fasteners, 200” lbs for 5/16-24 with anti seize.

I probably should’ve been more clear when I’m referring to nuts I’m referring to the sleeve nuts as well as the common nuts. I know the kit contains 10 conical washers But on the two survivor 1970 340’s I’ve looked at I’ve only seen the conical washers used under the six bolts ,just my two cents.

A good point. It’s been over 40 years since I pulled the manifolds off the 340 so I checked the Mopar parts book. It shows the conical washer but quantity is listed with a star and the foot note states “As Required “

IMHO - not using the washers on the studs risks turning an expensive manifold into a piece of trash needing a very visible repair...
