New starter won’t fit due to headers

Yes, he did. I hope it works well for him.

I just went thru all this , no luck w/ rebuilt starters 'too much engine bay heat. Now thermal barrier coated and a new powermaster starter from summit for a 14-1 engine . Have to rework the h pipe cause it doesnt line up exactly right w/ the new tti headers , I aint sure its even worth its weight on a dual 3 1/2'' dumped system , may plug it off--------??

Thanks for the tip Rusty! The rebuilt starter is great. I looked at the 08 starter and the nose looks like it was too short and may not fully engage the flywheel. Do you think this won’t be a problem (for future reference)?

I have to be 100% honest and say "I" have not tried one, but I believe @Johnny Mac has. He's where I got the recommendation. Maybe that slacker will chime in since I tagged him. It's not like he has anything else to do in that cushy job he has. lol

I have a late model hemi starter on the shelf but I have not installed it yet. If I recall it actually needs to be a 2500 ram with a manual. In the 2006 range.
That makes sense to me bc the manual trans probably carried over the earlier spacing. The 1500's didn't have a manual hemi option.
I can see what PN mine is on the shelf but I'm at BluePrint for a week.
I think you have to drill the threads out of the mounting hole also.

Someone here told me the above, but I can't remember, or find the thread. It's working for someone.

2006 DODGE RAM 2500 PICKUP 5.7L V8 Starter Motor | RockAuto

They are cheap enough. Could Amazon one of these pn's and ship it back free if it didn't work.

Not sure I want to wade into this, but I would just note that while the 08 hemi starter is the "same style" as the Robb McMaster starter, the McMaster nose piece and mounting pad is specially machined and is different than the Hemi starter in that area. Will the Hemi starter fit an early A body with 10.5 inch clutch or 727? Don't know, haven't tried it. The Robb McMaster starter will fit, and it's what's in my 65 Barracuda. I'd like to hear from someone who actually has used the hemi starter in an early A body with the big 340 clutch or 727, because TTI says only the Robb McMaster starter will work with either of those combinations. Of course, TTI might be wrong.
