That’s my plan too.
Pretty simple life is. Either you do the work or pay someone to do the work.
If you do the work you are the boss. Do it as good or sorry as you want or have to, because of tools, skills, or a place to work!
If I have to do the work, then I must develop needed skills to get it done. Learning for me have always been fun.
Or make friends that lke to work and work for FREE!!!!!! lol or trade work with each other.

Same here. I quit keeping a tab years ago. I will say that MOPARS are expensive to restore,and, untill recently ,say the last 10-15 years, there wasnt much support for certain things,you had to buy used and rebuild reuse things. I have an A body and I do like that some things are repop that werent years ago. Examples? i can get a 70 dart grille,rally dash trim, doors,and fenders, as new reproductions. years ago you had to buy fenders and patch panels in and do body work. The new parts arent cheap, but they do save alot of time and labor. I have a fox body Mustang and parts are alot cheaper. I say I can get a box of resto parts for a fox for $500,sand it takes $2000 to get a box of Mopar parts
May be an exaggeration, but I bet Im pretty close.

I have decided it s a dam hobby , always something to change or try to make better, or experiment with , no diff. from bass boats , guns, or off roading , just spend ur $$$ and do the best u can .

This is a great read. I feel a little better about my build. I,ve done everything myself up until now. Body and paint are not my strong suit upholstry either. 25K is fast becoming a reality, I,ve learned quick I dont know what **** cost anymore. With all that I,m Getting great satifaction in knowing I did it. Build it, drive it enjoy it.

You have the right attitude, enjoy the result of your efforts, no matter what, you won't likely get your money back, but the enjoyment and satisfaction of knowing you did the work yourself is impossible to put a price on.

Here in Oz for a sbm reco engine nothing flash 5+k and you need to supply your block . Here min price for a 318 or 360 non runner which requires rebuild will fetch $800-1200 for a 318 , $1200 - $1600 for a 360 . Not unusual to spend 15-20 k high end stroker . Machine work from a good shop ain’t cheap. You don’t know what it’s like living half a world away and when you need parts you pay premium in freight and Taxes to get it in. I would have paid easy over 12k in parts alone before my block even got touched.

building a street car here in OZ, well ute...doing all the repairs/modifications myself, I'm a Motor trimmer by trade so the interior is materials only, paying for engine/trans build and this time paying to have the paint done, after a work injury I can no longer paint for myself. Even with all the DIY I'm still looking at dropping a minimum of 50K on it. Could be worse, known people spend more on paint alone!!

I loved this thread. Just starting my 66 barracuda and it’s a rusty heap with the rear springs through the floor. The sheet metal outside is shot but the bones from the trunk up are like new. Old guy used to drag race it. Every nut n bolt is there but maybe…won’t be salvageable. Here’s some pictures before I brought it home. Was in an old shed until recently. Thinking 25k+ with me doing most of the work.

Believe it or not every piece of trim is there including the rocker trim, not broken. The dash pad doesn’t even have crack. Maybe I should just part it out. Might be to much for me. Excited to find it now my brain is telling me nooo…!
One bite at a time is how they say to eat an elephant.
If the alternate plan is to part it out anyway, just start taking it apart and addressing the real bad spots. Once you get to a point where it's no longer feasible to fix it then either part it or look for a solid body to build. My original Duster ended up being too far gone for me to fix so I lucked into a restored painted body out of Texas and restored that car using my car as a donor.
If I could give one piece of advice, don't take any more things apart than you have to. The donor car can be an instruction book if you let it! Good luck with your Barracuda!

Thanks guys I’ll take your advice and any help I can get. The last time I restored any vehicle was 1987. I’m kind of new to this. No websites back then when I had my other cars. I stopped when got married and sold everything I had stashed for later. I miss my 69 charger I was driving back then. Sold it for $3500.

I got sick with Tuberculosis working in the Arctic back almost ten years ago. Kind of shocked me bad didn’t even know it was a thing to catch anymore. Been on here for a few years watching n learning but my body doesn’t let me work like it used to. I hope restoring this will give me some piece of mind. Been a very hard few years almost dying changes you.

Hobbies cost but i think the problem is us. I have seen some take an already very nice car and spend a fortune to completely re do it? A lot of money can be spent on aftermarket pieces that don't provide much improvement...and are often a step backwards for a street driven car.
Stock parts often perform better, but that's no fun.
I don't think the hobby has to be expensive.

If that is true, it is very rebuildable! Get a build thread started in the restoration forum if you haven't already. Looking forward to seeing your progress!
