Mopar Posi rear axle

I sometimes wonder if the ford guys get all bent out of shape if someone asks if they have a posi in their mustang?
I had a 5.0 5sp mustang with a lsd. I have no clue what the correct ford term for it was.

I think that with all the LSs getting swapped into Mousetangs lately, a "Posi" would be the least of a Ford guy's worries!

Pretty sure the Ford one is called the **** locker….

:poke:And look at at the ferd exploder rear axle swaps going into Mopars...
Cheap, plentiful, available with nice gears and disk brakes........
That’s what Hot Rodding is all about.

It only bothers me when people who act like they know what there talking about use it wrong. You know the ones! Like that guy that claims to be a avid gun guy says "clips" instead of magazine! If someone is just learning or trying to learn it dont bother me at all I just let them know the difference and move on but when they refuse to listen and already know it all and still use it wrong I have to roll my eyes! Lol

:rofl: Posi is short for "Positive traction" basically what every clutch or lock up differential does. Ya but we don't want to sound like a Chevy boy! LOL[/QUOT
mopar name for it was the sure grip the later ones used a metal set up the old 8 3/4 used clutched & was rebuildable thr b 8 1/4 was not

Well, I guess if you've put a GM differential under your Mopar...

But, why would you do that?
Well, I roomed with a guy that bought a Super Bee. Previous owner painted it black over the decals. He had also installed a blueprinted Hemi and a Corvette independent rear suspension. It had the standard 3.07 Posi differential. It was still quick, got 25MPG on the hiway at 65 MPH. Disc brakes on the rear but drums on the front. It did corner quite well.

What a screwed up bunch of hot rodding that was. LOL

Wow... great mileage.Must be a gen III hemi.
426 dual guad. Gears go a long way to keeping the RPM down. Most of those cars came with 3.89 or lower gears so the RPM on the highway was hi.
I have a 1965 Galaxie 4dr with the 390 4V engine. Needs a valve job as one cylinder misses bad at idle, but still got 25MPG on the highway. One thing, those are imperial gallons, so US MPG would be about .8 of that so 20MPG US. Still when most of the muscle cars were getting 12MPG because of the gears. My Galaxie has 2.75 gears, so definately highway. I need to restore that cruiser.

Those imperial gallons are fine with me...i'm in Ontario!
Hard to believe 25mpg with a 426 Hemi

I know it sounds crazy, but loafing on the hiway at low RPM is the answer. Same as my 390. Can you imagine a Hemi with 3.55 gears, an OD transmission with .6 top gear and EFI? I get a vision of 30MPG and go like a raped ape.

It depends.
If the person I'm talking to doesn't really give a crap, I might explain the difference just as a matter of interest.
In other words not a car brand moron or car person.
You can tell.
But if the person is that anal about cars, I don't say anything.

About the main difference is ad men speak. GM divisions even had their own terms for a component that is basically all the same design.

They all did. The umbrella term is "limited slip" and each maker had its own marketing name.
