House Explosion

Well Kim RIP is all I can say. Decades ago, people were going nuts putting extra tanks in pickups. "Saddle tanks" good and bad

One day a guy came in the big parts store, and wanted to know what he needed and would I price it all out. So I determined he did not need a return line switching valve, and he elected a plain manual valve. Priced it all out, he thanked me

Couple weeks, etc, later he came in, waited for me, "did I remember him?" and wanted to buy some of the items. When I got them all and was billing them, he "had a confession." He said he just "Y'd the lines together and was really proud of that. Went out to the garage later after filling them both up, and there as ABOUT 1/8" OF FUEL ALL OVER THE GARAGE FLOOR

I smiled and said, "and THAT is why you need a valve!!"

Some of you may know I spend about a dozen years servicing HVAC/R. Lots of gas/ LPG around here along with heat pumps and oil. I HAVE SEEN SOME SCARY STUFF

One time I was called to a rental to service a gas "floor furnace" These, gas, oil, whatever, are a deal that sits in the floor and looks like a floor return grille. The entire heater hangs down below and just convects heat up. I had to get into a crawl space, make my way over there, and lying on my back looking it over.

I COULD SEE LIGHT shining down from above into the combustion chamber as there were rust holes in the heat exchanger. So I shut the gas off and pulled the stat wires off the thing and went up and told the resident.

He was all huffy and mad. "BY GOD I'LL HOOK THAT BACK UP!!!" So I went and called the back door number for one of the then WWP guys and he just went over there and LOCKED THE METER.

There's been a couple others I've nearly gotten into it with customers. One was an unsafe oil chimney situation, and the family was OPERATING AN UNLICENSED DAYCARE in the place I took no **** off that guy. I mentioned the kids, and said "If I get any more guff out of you I'll have the fire dept and PD over here and we'll see" It got fixed!!!

Yup I red tagged a lot of equipment and shut off a lot of gas over the years.
