Hello fabo,Need some expert advise on the rear window seal and trim, on a 1967 barracuda notchback. Done some research and it's confusing me {which is not hard to do}. Some sites tell me to use 68,69 seal and update to steel trim. And others offer 67 seal, but I can not find trim. I have no problem with the 68,69 seal, if that will work this is not a show car just a father and son project cruiser car. If someone can tell me everything that I need, and a reasonable place to purchase the item's I will be very grateful.

OK, here's the low down: 1967 had a unique seal that used a plastic "chrome finish" lockstrip for trim with stainless steel pieces in the corners. In 1968 they changed to a different trim — stainless steel moldings all the way around — but this necessitated a different seal plus the addition of 20-odd small metal clips attached with screws around the perimeter of the glass. The notchback, being rarer than the fastback, has always had problems with the availability of the window trim and seals.

The first question is, do you absolutely need a new seal? Is the glass still in the car? Is there a reason why you would remove it?

Because the simplest solution is to just leave the glass and seal in place. Then, if the trim is missing, search for the plastic lockstrip for 1967 Barracuda front and rear glass. It can be found. Even it only shows for the fastback, you can cut it to length. You may have to haunt eBay to find the stainless corner pieces, if they are missing, but I see them frequently.

If your problem is that the glass is out of the car and the seal is not salvageable, then it gets tougher. The 1967 rear seal for the notchback goes in and out of availability. I think the current status is out, but check with Layson's, Classic Industries, and Steele Rubber.

People will tell you that changing to the 1968-9 rear window trim is an upgrade, and they are right —the problem is that the stainless moldings for the notchback rear window are rarer than hen's teeth, and expensive when you find them. They have never been reproduced, so you are looking for used parts. You want to get your hands on tis trim before committing to a changeover. But then you still have to find the 1968-9 seal — however, this is more likely to be available from the usual sources. While you have the glass and old seal out of the car, you will need to drill the holes to mount the clips that hold the stainless steel trim (these clips are available new) — the pattern for these holes is also available — if you get to that point, you can ask me for it. So it's a fair amount of work, but the stainless trim is much better looking than the plastic lockstrip, and it doesn't shrink and crack like the plastic does.

One more fun fact: the 1967 notchback rear glass is a different curvature than the 1968 glass, but this doesn't make any difference to anything — it's just a weird bit of trivia.

Thanks for the info.. The glass is still in the car, trim is just in pieces . I need to pull the glass to repair the bottoms has a little rust at the bottom corners and the seal will not survive it's hard and shrunken. I was wondering about the clips for 68,69. And you answered my question . I guess that there were corner pieces in 67 and was plastic too? I found a seal with trim on ebay for 67 notch , but it looked like a black plastic strip no corners so that will be a problem. For about $220. Then will start on the front windshield rubber bad no trim and will need glass . Need to do this anyway to replace headliner. This is my first A body , maybe needed to more research before purchase{lol}. Seems like 67 was a one of a kind.

You can run the 68 and up rubber without the chrome trim. 67 needs the locking strip.

I don't have the lock strip on my 67 fastback front or rear glass. it's been that way since the 70's.
When I had a new windshield installed they glued it.

This is the only picture of my 67 with the original lock strip. The chrome Mylar was sandwiched in the plastic, over time the plastic would break away exposing the chrome and in time it would flake away leaving a yellowed clear plastic lock strip.

Precision has the proper gasket and are the only mfg for the 67 only mylar lockstrip. They offer it new. A good member @RPM440+6 is also a vendor of their products and will offer the right stuff and the right advice. In the meantime Google Precison Replacement products.

Good luck

Here is a link to the Precision 67 A-Body pieces. If you look at WLS DB 3861-67, they are listing the application for the 67 Barracuda notchback application. They do not indicate that the corners are included and the picture shows only three pieces so you would have to cut one of the pieces to make up the four pieces. I will have to contact our rep in regards to the particulars. I have sold a number of the convertible and fastback kits, but have had people purchase the windshield kit and use it for the rear window. To be honest, I had never seen it listed for the notchback application until just now when I pulled it up.

Do not purchase the kit with the mylar trim that is flexible and is rolled up as it is the trim as used on the 63 to 66 A-Bodies or the truck applications. The 67 mylar pieces are rigid and has a wider profile making them a one year only piece.

Do not go by the pricing as listed on the site. Most of us vendors for the Precision product line sells it for a lower price. The only issue currently is getting some of the product, but that is no different than anything at the current time.

Here's a link to the 68-9 molding clips: 68-69 ‘Cuda Coupe Molding Clip Kit Windshield/Rear Window 82pcs | eBay

Here are the corners we are talking about — this set is for the lower windshield corner. The angle is subtly different for the upper corners, but I think a lot of people just mix and match them, and the sellers aren't always good about identifying them: NOS Mopar 1967-1969 Dart Valiant Cuda Lower Windshield Moulding Caps Mint Pair! | eBay

I don't recall if the coupe has another piece in the center of the bottom, at the point. This ad is showing a straight segment: 1967-68 MOPAR BARRACUDA VALIANT NOS TRIM CLIP FOR REAR WINDOW LOCK MOPAR#2839317 | eBay

If I remember correctly Precision offered the correct metal corners for the fastback, not sure about notch, obviously well worth looking into.

Wow, I didn't know about Precision. They have some really hard to find parts. Thanks for posting the link.

FYI... I just went through 20 years of Mopar show photos and didn't find a single picture showing a 67 notch with original rear window trim in place. Some with just a rubber gasket, others with 68 trim installed (these were the restored cars). Of course, most photos are of the front ends of cars, not the back.

BUT, they are the only ones for correct 1 year only lockstrip and more products probably. Thankfully they are still going!
That`s great for the numbers/purist type guys. I`m glad I jumped on a 68 trim set. !/3 the price and will never shrink like that repop stuff will likely do in time, just like the original.

Thanks for the foot work. Everyone is very helpful and sending me in right direction.

Windshield urethane is some amazing glue for sure. Done properly it is very permanent.
