TF's on a 318 ???? Oops, another 318 thread...

Probably going to see the same arguments on Chebby & Ferd forums. Why run a 327 when you can run a 350. Why run a 302 when you can run a 351........
When I was growing up, the consensus was a 307 was a boat anchor. By the late 80s,the 305 was a good little engine...
 
I've never in my life seen Chevy guys **** on their own. Nothin like Mopar guys do.
I see more **** coming g from the 318 fans toward the 340/360 crowd and its un called for really. Itd like the guys that can't get a prom date being passed off at the guys that can...the guy with the prom date is like" excuse me, do I know you...what have I ever done to you?..."

That's peculiar since I've seen it the other way. It's always "go get a 360/5.9" or "you'd be better off ditching that old boat anchor."
 
Heres a "case in point" for ya..there was a guy on this forum in Connecticut giving a 318,and I think I saw 273 . The teen was a whole engine I think the 273 was parts maybe a block. No one claimed it. he scrapped it. a 340-360? # 1 no one is giving that away, and if they did it would be gone like flies eating ****.

Especially on the internet.:) the diviede will always be "Performance engine vs non performance engine",and cheapsakates trying to convert said non performance engine into performance engine all the while spending lots of $$$ to make a 318 into a 340,when all they had to do was start with what they wanted in the first place. thats is what I see.:) its funny how th ebroke guys are geniuses and know how the 318 is better than a 340, but somehow they cant afford the real deal.

They love them LS motors alright. Ain't no denyin that. They'll run, too.

I never said anything about **** talking 318s. I dont beleive a 318 is a good foundation for a performance engine. id spend the money now as I did 30 years ago,and get a good 340-360 or 5.9 magnum as a foundation for a performance build. but thats just me. This 318 drum beating, all I said was those guys have the attitude. They have something to prove and I don't care or want to see it. I don't want it "shoved down my throat " so to speak. I mean you can have the same pissing matches over lawnmower engines if ya wanted to..its silly.

Correct, bought my '71 340 Cuda street car back in 1980, all stock interior etc. + intake, 750DP, .484/284 purple hyd., small tube hdrs, 3500s/holeshot 727, 3.55's and 8x26" slicks best was 13.2@101+. Added 4.30's, strip dominator, 850DP, .590" sft cam, 4200stall, 10x28's, race hdrs, best was 12.4's@108. NA
and stock 340 springs clamped@front, Mp shocks with MP extensions and p/snubber 1/2" from floor.

Unless it was a gas mileage contest, please quote where someone said a 318 is better than a 340. Anyone.
 
You just never hear Chevy guys say something like "Why not run a 350 instead of that 283?" They all talk about how cool the 283 is.

The bottom line is, the 318 gets crapped on because there was never a "performance" version offered, yet, if you do the same upgrades to it the factory did to the 340, you get almost the same result. It's just dumbfuck.
 
When talking to many 340 owners, here lies the problem. They believe because they have a 340 in their car, they are entitled. Entitled to what ? They get the crowd, they get automated respect, and they get the win in the race. LOL. They paid much money for that. Maybe... 1400 dollars for a core motor, then another 3k to get it rebuilt and freshened up. It just kills them... literally, when a 318 guy outruns them for a 1/4 of the cost. Friends, it isn't 1981 anymore. Nobody is going to bow down to your 340, and if you think your 5200 dollar bought and freshened up with a mild cam upgrade 340 can't be outrun by a 1400 dollar 318, it's best you stick to the car shows only. LOL. It's 2021

Now, building a hot rod and given the choice between a 318 and 340 for free?? I don't know of anyone that wouldn't take the bigger bore.

Just making power with an available engine. Personally, I feel gives hope to people not on large budgets. Can 360s be had for low prices also, sure, but that isn't the point. Much of hot rodding is using what you have. Some like to prove a point. Many spend far more making a more unique combo work; more power to them. I say built whatever you want and keep an open mind to what someone else builds. They didn't build it for you, nor did you build for them.

Can't agree with that more. But how many times do you see a 360/340 recommendation on a 318 thread?

Yeah but if there's a cool car with a hot slant 6 sittin next to a 340 car at a show, the 340 car don't get all the attention. lol
 
My first car was a 69 GTS
Bought it in 1972 for 1200 bucks
Had 3.55 gears and a set of blackjack headers, otherwise bone stock.
Went 14.23@99 with it.

Not saying 318 isn't ,for the record I ran one in my swinger while I was building the 340.I however, didn't spend more than $500 on the 318 .this was back in 2003. the 340 guys entilted? no if they have a H code car its the whole package not just the engine .This is why there are so many 6 cylinder darts with high impact paint jobs, 360s, and Bumble bee stripes on them. these are clones,and those guys,some of them want H code prices for those cars. Ihad a guy with an obvious clone car telling me his car was original. i kept my mouth shut checked the vin tag, the only thing I said when he said it was original paint was "really? I dont remember the factory painting the dash and top of the doors body color...' there are too many people out there that dont know whats up...or they got into this real late when Mopars started costing big money.Those people want to argue about the cost of this their car is worth that..its too late. i had a guy who needed a fender extensaion for his 70-72 dart I said "$50 bucks" he said "eff hat" I said "they go for $100 on e bay.." point isd too many experts who arent experts. Ive been playing around with mine for way too long. had the car in peices down to bare metal, I pretty much feel like I know the ins and outs of my car.

you do realize that 340's aren't filling the junkyards for 125 bucks each, right ??? I mean, to get a 340, you have to look, perhaps travel, and then pay a premium for a core. You understand that, correct? It's not 1981. So, when a mopar guy decides he'll work with the 318 that's in his car and stick with his budget, be it 500 or a 1000 bucks, your advice to "just get a 340" becomes a waste of internet space.

Oh, and still waiting for you to quote all these arrogant remarks from 318 owners beating up on 340 owners. Or, you can just stop throwing out garbage statements that you simply cannot back up. Stop already with your Fake News... LOL

Ummmm... stay out of my threads if I'm your problem. I'm the OP. IF you quote it, back it. You can't find these 318 dudes bashing on 340 owners, so it's posting garbage. Actually, I hate to be this guy, but I don't want to spend another 14 seconds of my life reading your "made up" statements or irrelevant post, so the answer for me is the "ignore button".
