I'm looking around for a pair of brackets that go from 727 case to 340 block. I'm finding that the right side are basically the same but the left is different. I am hearing that there is a long and a short left side. To confuse matters, the factory Mopar parts catalog lists one part number for all LA applications without noting 904 or 727. So my question is what are the differences between the left bracket for 318, 340, and 360? What do I need for my 340/727 combo, the short or long left side?.

Thanks

Unless you are doing a restoration, they are not needed....I took mine off ~ 28 years ago and never looked back.

Before you get too deep into your search, are you going to run headers? If so, most headers don't clear and you have to remove them anyway. Might save you some time and $$.

As said before-Chrysler didn't put these on for no reason! If you are not using headers, use them. 904 and 727 use the same braces, although side specific. Around 1976 Chrysler started using a longer starter and moved the bolt boss on the block ahead 1 inch on the drivers side. I have a pair if you need some. PM me.

Thanks for the responses. It's not a resto and am not running headers. Anything, especially a factory bracket that adds rigidity, I'm all for.

I just went through this with my 68 barracuda 340/727 here are a few pictures of what you need. I also have long tube headers and I did have to make a small adjustment on the passenger side was no big deal, the drivers side fit just fine no adjustment needed. Drivers side on the left and also with the tape measurements passenger side on the right. And yes put them back on.

Thanks those pics are very helpful

You are welcome and without headers you should not have to make any adjustments at all. Post those pictures in a wanted add someone will chime in.
Good luck

My car takes WAY more abuse than what Chrysler original intended for their cars, and I can say that with a 600hp small block stroker, racing every weekend, clicking off low 10 second passes AND driving on the street every weekend....you just don't need them....but to each their own.

The big block and the Hemi are deep skirt blocks-the centerline of the crankshaft are way up in the block, hence the bellhousing bolt pattern comes down a lot farther on the transmission face.
Well, I’ve never seen a big block or Hemi with them. Not sure why they didn’t get them. Kim

I have a couple of sets of the brackets. The longer driver's side (on the left in the picture) is of a different design than the one shown in the above pictures. I'm not sure why....
