Is there a way to tell if your car was equipped with power steering? I don't see any options like that on the fender tag. This is for my 66 Barracuda. It started life as a 273 / 2bl car. Thanks.

Does the steering column look original? Even then someone could have changes the center shaft.

It has a 66 column for bucket seat center console option as it was equipped. Car was a disaster when I bought it and was going to be scrapped. Someone stuffed a 318 roller motor and 727 out of a 88 diplomat cop car in it. That's how I bought it. It has power steering but thought it may have been from the diplomat.

the steering column will be shorter than a manual steering column if it was factory equipped. If someone monkeyed around with it , should be easy to tell as I would guess they would have to have cut the shaft and re splined it and possibly cut the steering column wheel housing. If they swapped out a ps column into to the car then there is no way to tell. If the fender tag does not say anything and the broadcast sheet says nothing then there may not be any other way to tell.

I may be wrong but I dont think there is a pitman arm that will attach a late model power steering box to the early A steering linkage. The hex nut below the pitman arm should measure 1&1/8. My guess is only the power steering pump, brackets, pulley, are from the diplomat.

The broadcast sheet would tell you, or, better yet, get the build info from Chrysler Historical. Costs a bit to get that info though. One overlooked item in a changeover is the k-member bracket that holds the pressure hose. If it's there, it's probably originally a P/S car.

Thanks for all the replies. No broad cast sheet available. More for curiosity sake than anything. I'll look for the K member bracket tonight.
