Ignition box tests

MSD bought mallory very early in 2015. Before 2015 was over, Holley group bought them both.
Anything electronic marked mallory is rebranded msd, the mallory fuel pumps they want a fortune for, are holleys.

I thought the Mallory fuel pumps were still made to Mallory specifications? Maybe not. Seems to me the Mallory fuel pressure regulators are the same as before.

It’s a damn shame Mallory never hired any decent marketing people. MSD took over the magneto market by half truths, innuendo and straight lies. If Mallory had half the marketing MSD did they’d still be going.

In fact, I think it was an ARCA series that Mallory took over with spec boxes and had zero failures. Not one. Other brands didn’t get anywhere near that. That was right before the fall.

Sickens me still.

I honestly dont know if mallory specs and materials are still used to make mallory brand pumps. All i know is mine has been dependable as a rock for a long, long time,
and now sells for 10-15 times what i paid for it. Holley wants to sell holley pumps, not mallory.

Great video, thanks for sharing. I run an old $50 swap meet MSD analog 6al, mp mallory gut distributor and an Autozone ford style metal stack coil. I also have an HEI in the car that can get me home with a few connector swaps that I've never used to get home if needed.

My friends brother has been working for MSD since it was privately owned and will be retiring in next couple of years if anybody wants the low down on MSD of today pm me and I will get u his number .

Would like to see how a digital 6 plus box works. All the standard 6al boxes I’ve read up on having many failures

have had 4 of them never a failure ,except for the first one I bought used , hooked it up wrong , sent it back to msd in texas, they charged me $19.00 and sent it bqack to me !

That must have been years and years ago
My buddys brother may have been the repair man
He has been there over 25 years and handles repairs and worked in dyno room before they were removed by latest owners.

Yep. MSD took care of both failures pronto. They didn’t charge me a cent. Not even return shipping.

These companies are between a rock and a hard place. Every diode, capacitor and whatever other junk is in the boxes is produced overseas. Like everything else, the quality control is hit and miss at best.

And these companies buy in huge quantities to keep costs down. So if there is an issue with a part, they are screwed.

All we can ask for is they take care of it and MSD did that. I feel bad for these companies. You can bet they would rather never have a failure. But the real world isn’t like school.

I have an old chrome box that failed, can these be repaired or is it a paper weight now?

Paper weight. @Stephen Hotz Buys them for projects.
I didn’t know Steve bought old broken boxes. Interesting.
He’s a good dude.

What’s the big issue with repairing the Chrysler box?
It’s got to be getting all of that material off of the electronic parts out of the way.

Can you post a picture of inside a OE or performance box?
