Howdy. Is it ok to use this oil in my transmission ?

First choice in the FSM is Dexron. Any modern Dexron now supersedes DexronII. But if you can find II it will work fine. I prefer it over gear oil because it doesn't have to warm up to shift smoothly.

I have read that although the modem Dexron superseded the older versions the newer product is thinner in viscosity. Just one of the reasons the new product is Dexron IV and not Dexron II. All part of the mileage improvement game. I have no idea whether this would make a difference in an A833. What I put in my A833 at the last service is Pennzoil Sycromesh fluid.
It shifts really nice. Part of the recent service was a clutch change and with that I spent some time with off set dowels and really dialed in the bell housing, went through the shifter linkage and there is the new clutch, so there are several other improvements also.

It shifts really smooth in my A903.

you will never shift it in a winter climate until you have it warmed up

I've seen both gear oil & ATF used in these transmissions, but ATF is factory recommended. I would think the ATF Chrysler uses in my Dakota, ATF+4 is fine for your trans.

Dexron is reverse compatible. I think you know what I mean.
And do you really think the manufacturers are testing / certifying the new Dexron formulas to be the best in 50 year old manual transmissions?
I think you know what I mean.

I did not say it would not work, especially in a light, low power vehicle. I did say I wonder if it is the best choice.

I know you didn't.....here's what's always been my thinking......agree or disagree, but it's what I think. I've never seen it in print, but it makes sense to "ME".

For stock vehicles on the street, even those considered muscle cars, if they are on the STREET, Dexron works "better"as it shifts smooth right off the bat. No warm up time needed. Light to moderate duty and will work "just fine".

But if one is going to be raced on a regular basis, or dedicated race, gear oil. That's my thinkin, and I'm stickin to it. lol

Hell no. They are making what they think will sell. duhhhhhh. LOL

Gear oil is also factory recommended. It's in the FSM, just not "first" on the list.

I always get a kick out of these debates, they all work. Both my '69 Swinger and '71 Demon had gear oil in them from the factory, had them apart a lot from street racing. I always put 80/90 gear oil back in them. I live in northern Illinois, wonder how I ever got to work in the winter if I couldn't shift it with gear oil in them. I use Pennzoil Syncrowmesh oil now, works for me. Most of us are not driving these cars in the snow and cold anyway.

LOL...got caught in a snowstorm on my street bike in early 2008. That was one nasty, miserable ride for sure.

Off subject, remember being out in 32° weather on my street/drag bike Sportster, of course, Mr. Alcohol was involved. My friend and got stopped at 1 or 2 in the am for Terry not having eye protection in place. The police officer was almost laughing his *** off, even with leathers, we were freezing our *** off. Wouldn't change those memories for the world.
