No, they do not....
So your telling me that the lifter rides on the camshaft directly and there is no rocker arm in between the valve and lifter. So a roller that wears out on the rocker doesn't exist

The roller in the fricking LIFTER has needle bearings which fail, causing the ROLLER on the LIFTER to NOT ROLL.... jezus...

apology I was getting the overhead camshaft Chrysler 3.6 confused they have the roller rockers BRAIN FART ...:BangHead:
 
Parts where 2500 and rest was labor. I told my sister in law to buy a long block and gasket kit, shipping and core charge $3800. I’ll replace it, she pays the core charge and I keep the motor and have it for a backup for when my 5.7 goes out in my Barracuda
I agree that would be the best thing to do. You might get away with just replacing the cam and lifters but the mds solenoids and vvt solenoids all have fine mesh screens inside that could be plugged up with fine metal debris from the wrecked cam. Not to mention what could have gone through the oil pump,cam and crank bearings.RJ
 
Order a crate motor and swap it yo self
 
Can’t find a crate available. Everyone I’ve called says only long block. Unless I get a crate for a car and swap the cover
I’m a dealer tech so when we order a longblock hemi engine from Chrysler, we get a complete assembled engine, EXCLUDING coils,valve covers,timing cover,oil pan,mounts,flex plate,intake and exhaust manifolds. That should be all you would need other than the gaskets needed to swap those parts over from the original engine. Sometimes we can get a “ longblock dressed”. That engine comes complete from intake to pan.$$$$$$$. Would this compare to the crate engine you were looking at?
 
My friend's 2010 Ram 1500 had the cam/lifter failure too... dealer soaked him for ~$8000 (Canadian) for the repair. The second he told me that, I put my 2009 Ram up for sale and unloaded it.... it had the notorious "Hemi tick" already and I wasn't going to stand by and let Chrysler's shitty modern engineering bite me in the wallet.

At this point, I wouldn't touch anything with a Gen III Hemi in it.

Get the part number and do some searching. I bet a dealer has one. I know for us, GM dealers, there are guys on the power train program that sell them cost -% and free freight.
 
I guess I'm lucky. I have the 'tick' and 200k on my 2010 truck. Still going strong...
 
For the record the ( hemi tick ) is not always the cam/ lifters, if you easily want to know if you have a cam problem cruise about 60 -70 kms , about 35 to 40 mph for you US guys , then coast, ( foot off the gas ) do this preferably past a fence or hedge for the sound to bounce off, roll your window down and listen for what sounds like a card in a bicycle spoke, if you here it, press your trailer tow button which disables the mds if the noise goes away immediately and returns when you push the tow haul button again, you got a problem!
 
Just throw a junkyard LS or Lt motor in the truck. Cheap, parts-a-plenty, and tons of aftermarket support! (I'm kidding - but wish our Mopar stuff had the same opportunities as the LS guys)

My nephew has a 2016 Ram w/5.7 Hemi. He said it was loosing power and took to dealer and they told him it needs a new cam and rockers on the driver side replaced. Does this make sense. Why would the rockers be bad on one side and the cam. $5300 parts and $1800 labor
This is what I do for a living since 2010 for a Chrysler dealer. Lifter rollers fail and seize up causing damage to cam lobe. Problem is all that metal has to go somewhere. First thing we do is remove intake manifold and remove and inspect the oil control valve. If it’s full of metal we don’t go any further. It will require a new engine. We are unable to properly clean and remove all of the metal debris from all the oil passages for the VVT system. Yes I know everyone’s Uncle Bob at the machine shop can fix all this real cheap but that’s not how it works at the dealership level. We have to be able to honor or workmanship or parts at another other dealership nationwide.
They don’t have roller rockers but we do see them wear and have pitting on the arm where it touches the top of the valve stem. That’s probably why they only quoted one side.
One major problem with these is the cam bearings get major wear on them especially the front bearing. Chrysler does not allow us under warranty to replace cam bearings so once again engine replacement. It’s around 16.0 hrs or so for a 1500 4x4. This includes removing and cleaning the oil pan and pickup tube which has to be done to even have a chance of it making it.
Like I said yes we as hobbyists can fix this much cheaper. Send block to machine shop get hot tanked and new cam bearings and go from there. But at a shop level a new engine makes more financial sense

So what truck did you go to ?
 
When ever you buy a truck take it for a road test. From a stop depress the accelerator pedal to the floor . Look in the mirror.
"If it don't smoke black take it back". Real trucks don't have spark plugs.

The system definitely has its issues. But I’ve owned a Ram without MDS and got about 10 MPG. So I definitely helps. Especially the newer trucks with the 8 speed trans. I hate that they have these issues cause they are strong performing engines. Our trucks and cars are big and heavy and still run strong. GM has the same type issue with there DOD system. I wish they would spend the money on a better quality made lifter / roller bearing.
