I hope the carb had some effort of tune and setup for this engine. Understand that fuel injection was the goal and dyno is expensive. But would like to know if there was some tuning effort in the carb to give it a fair chance.
This is not what this discussion is about at all. To your point a 650 was used for initial breaking and then tune. Then the fitech was slapped on. The engine speaks for itself.
