Heater Box Design - Lame?

What does the temp slider do on the OP's car?

Been a while since I had an A, but all my B's have that slider control a valve.
It opens and closes the door at the heater core. I think you can blend the hot air with cold to a desired temp. The other door is for floor/defrost or a blend of the two also. Real simple and cheap heater box.

I love cars with real vents and "wing wings." I have never gotten used to those that dont. Only thing saves is AC. Hell up in these parts we never had an AC car until after I got out of the Navy in 74

All vents do in Arizona is turn the inside into a convection oven. Cooking you from the bottom up! Had it open for about 30 seconds, shut it and never used it again.

Auto parts stores sell shut off valves you can put in the heater hose. Used to be about $5.

I went with the Four Seasons valve, although I also like RustyRatRod’s model. I put it on the output hose where it wouldn’t drip on the engine as I read some complaints. The heater box is now room temperature (hoses still hot). Doesn’t look the greatest, but it works.

Off/Temp low: flap into heater core and flap out of heater core closed.
Heat/Temp High: flap into heater core open and flap out of heater core wide open.
Def/Temp High: flap into heater core open and flap out of heater core wide open. Another flap opens defroster hoses and closes heat exit.
