Getting ready to get my 71 demon called the Bostonian back up and ready to go racing in the super gas category and NHRA and the nostalgia modified eliminator classes in AHRA. As it sits the car will do high 9s.


So the car is a 1971 Dodge Demon built period correct for the early '70s it's got a 15:1 398ci small block Doug Nash 4 + 1 leaf spring ladder bars and that every period trick I could come up with. It will not be using any throttle stops or any electronics other than a standard MSD box with one rev limiter to save the motor otherwise straightforward nostalgia technology.


With that being said hopefully you guys dig my trial and error process as try to get back in the swing of things especially being a young guy sticking my head back up out of the foxhole

Overall sanitary and one of the nicest put together small block cars on this site! No throttle stops or electronics either....perfect. Good luck with it! :usflag:

Yeah no problem it's a 398 small block. Using a Nos direct connection 8 bolt Crank that was sent out knife cut an underturned. I had put into a 1970 ta block that was overboard .030 filled and added milodon 4bolt main caps. With a set of grp aluminum rods and custom coated diamond Pistons. Obviously fully studded with ARP hardware it runs a very reworked set of Edelbrock performer heads I use them for the lack of core shift issues and also the bolt pattern that would line up to an la standard pattern. The heads were CNC ported to pair with the intake with no disregard to water jackets roof or floor of the port as well as changing and welding the chamber on the head so these things have a lot of welding scars. The valve train consists of a custom crane solid roller with jessel rocker arms titanium valve spring retainers and titanium valves with sodium filling. The headers are custom built pieces by tubular automotive in Weymouth Mass. The oiling system is a moroso external wet sump with a custom dragster pan with steering linkage that goes through it that takes a total of 12 quarts in the system. the ignition is an MSD 7al gold box with a direct connection tack drive distributor soon to be triggered by a crank trigger setup and, the carbs are a custom set of holley double pumpers off a old modified eliminator vet. The motor was built by Mason automotive machine in North scituate Rhode Island and he absolutely knocked it out of the park with no expense spared and I'm keeping the horsepower rating to myself for a reason...

We're hoping to make an ahra modified eliminator race in September overat jeffers in Missouri if not we're going to plan on getting the car ready for the March meet or the bowling Green hot rod reunion


It should be shifting between 6500-7500 depending on what the car actually likes with the Nash I used to shift at 6800 when it had an auto

Having an 8. 3/4 I'm going to be starting with a set of 4.56s because of Doug Nashs super low first gear. But I used to run 4.88 in the car when it ran an automatic in. so I have those ready and on tap plus a set of 5.13. the slicks are said to be a 30 in but they actually roll out to being a 32 so it should be pretty good

It's a Ford mustang tank the way early pro stock cars would do Sox and Martin, Aaron Akron, exc. The rules used to be it had to be an oem tank but didn't say out of who's
Definitely a better look "in ground" than sitting up high. imo
 
Luvin' it! White-painted headers, cool can, and all. You nailed the look from back in the day.
Back in the mid-'70s I built my old '69 340 Swinger to run Super Street and had to tuck the 14x32 slicks in tubs all underneath the body because the rules said you couldn't raise the rear wheel openings. The wheel openings were lengthened 4" - no mention in the rules against that.
Sure wish I'd never stupidly sold that car.

What does the car weigh with you in it?
I dont give that 8.75 a very long time to live, be surprised if it takes more than a couple good hits

I had that concern as well I've already got a Dana on order with strange but the car with me in it weighs 2830

Plus I'm probably going to tub the car anyway this year so the dana and would be necessity. I scored New Old stock SRD tubs
 
I just noticed those great back lit Sun gauges. :thumbsup:My friend has 4 mint Sun gauges that were on his Charger from back then.He also has that Moroso mech tach, looks like none of them were ever used...
 
Are you using those (for lack of better words) front suspension restrictors on your lower control arms to control drop?
