I found in dyno tests that if you run a carburetor directly on the big block Victor intake and you remove the corner protrusions right under carb mounting pad (plenum throat) you decrease the horsepower. Take a cartridge roll and just smooth the surface of the plenum throat of the stock Victor and power increases. I only machine out the plenum throat protrusions if I'm going to use the Victor intake with a spacer.

When Cody and I were doing the dyno tests on the 496 we looked at the Victor intake and wondered about the shape of the plenum throat. Why did Edelbrock make it like that. So we decided to test it stock and slowly modify it until it was entirely removed. We have maybe 30 dyno runs testing that Victor intake and I'm just laying out a quick summary of the results on the forum.
