It really wasn't a bad little car, but I broke the rear sway bar on a rough road (couldn't find one, either) and the whole Vega line (of which those and the Pontiac Starfire and Monza derived from) had problems with breaking front control arms. It would have been fun to swap a GNX drive train into, though. The GTS was still a better choice. It was my wife's daily driver when she was 21 (and rumor has it she ain't 21 anymore...)
