Old School TM7 versus the New School Victor

IQ, the plenum pics are taken at different angles. Hard to see the differences. Was one deeper than the other? Can you elaborate? Thanks.

I found in dyno tests that if you run a carburetor directly on the big block Victor intake and you remove the corner protrusions right under carb mounting pad (plenum throat) you decrease the horsepower. Take a cartridge roll and just smooth the surface of the plenum throat of the stock Victor and power increases. I only machine out the plenum throat protrusions if I'm going to use the Victor intake with a spacer.

When Cody and I were doing the dyno tests on the 496 we looked at the Victor intake and wondered about the shape of the plenum throat. Why did Edelbrock make it like that. So we decided to test it stock and slowly modify it until it was entirely removed. We have maybe 30 dyno runs testing that Victor intake and I'm just laying out a quick summary of the results on the forum.

I run a very old TM-6 on my LD 383! It has served me well since the early 80's.

It made the best power for my setup when the Holley 750DP was spaced up 2". Hood clearance in an "A" was an issue!

Going back to a stock uncut 69 fish hood required me to go Edlebrock 800AVS to use the factory air cleaner!

TM-7 is RB 413 up!

What was pictured is a Torker 383, Likley better than a Tarantula TM-6 though! IMO

Sorry I miss read the first post!

The 383 Torker was just for a overall understanding.

A true Victor would be a plus!

Another consideration for some is....... the TM7 will fit under most(all?) stock hoods and still allow the use of a decent air filter.
It also has the carb pad angle corrected so the carb sits level in a regular door car with the engine sitting in the stock mounts.

For a more serious build, the Victor or TFS intakes would make more power.

I built a 448 with some cleaned up B1BS heads over 20 years ago that I used a TM7 on. The intake had some clean up done to it, but nothing major.
That motor made 625hp and ran mid-10’s in a 3900lb B body.

I saw an intake shoot out , the original former Yorker was the best overall with a great torque curve

I always wondered why they made the victors with such a small plenum !
I removed the tonsils in the plenum and run a 1/2'' spacer , the 505 seems to like it !
