Met many members there and put faces to ID's.

Years ago I was at Carlisle and met someone that I bought an Air breather from. I didn't know him but we hit it off and had a blast talking and laughing. He could sell ice to an Eskimo.

Friday he came to my son's Vender's spot and was looking at parts and I recognized him as the person I bought the breather from years back. He didn't know me and I didn't know him but we started joking and laughing again. I asked him If he ever went on FABO and he said yes. I told him who I was and neither of us could believe who each other were.

This man is a fun guy his name is Mike. I drove him around on the golf cart to pick up other items he bought Laughing the whole time. We ended up buying an intake from him. It was lilbadred79 . A fun guy and can't wait until next year to meet him again.

I also met Dave from Connecticut and other great members but I can't remember there names. Just to many . I had the greatest time ever at Carlisle meeting great members. No wonder this site is the best of all mopar sites. We are all part of a site that brings people together.

I hope I make it to next July for the next Chrysler event when the pandemic is over. LOL . Met FEBO and FBBO members also. The FABO members are where its at. Saw several of my old cars there. And every time I said to my son boy I should have kept that car and then the feeling wore off when seeing all the others I never owned. Man there was a lot of nice cars there.

Im going next year and hopefully Roy from FL will go also , I cant control myself around all those vendors !!!

Met oldmanmopar this weekend and he had some good quality parts at a good fair price awesome to deal with and just a straight up good guy and pleasure to talk to and look forward to seeing him next year

It was great seeing you Steve even tho we didnt chat long. I Was at you house 2 months ago and bought the demon fender.
I saw you had a 440 Tunnel ram, did u manage to sell that?

Carlisle is always a good time for me. I didn't make it this year, but I'm lucky, it's only a 1 1/2 hour drive for me right up the Pa. Turnpike. Next year for sure. Hey limegreen70, I think your in box is full. I wanted to know if you sold that Duster I am interested in at Carlisle?

I have been twice but long time ago. It was great way back then, and I can just imagine how wonderful it is today!!!
Good people, good cars, good facility. No I should say GREAT!

Drove the camera over with the golf cart.Tossed it before I remembered it had a card. My son may have pics on his phone.

Steve,
It was great meeting and your son! (And your friend) I had a blast BSing and laughing. Great parts great people!

My son went with me in my 64 Val. At 38 he's getting somewhat cynical and I told him it's not just the cars but the people. We had a good time talking to different people and he was like his old fun loving self for awhile.

I was thrashing for about 2 weeks to get the new seats and carpet in. I was not expecting to spend 2 days patching holes in the floor. Wednesday night I got 5-1/2 hrs sleep. Worked 17 hrs on the car Thursday. The car was outside under a tarp and it rained 4 times during the day. Got 4-1/2 hrs sleep that night.

I was also going to change over to a 4 speed but wasted many hours trying to remove the old pilot bushing. The bread trick did not work. Same technique with grease did not work. Lisle pilot bushing tool and grease gun did not work. Fibally my son said cut it out so I put a small carbide ball end cutter in a Dremel and grooved the old bushing. Zip! 5 minutes and it practically fell out. It was that kind of stuff. Took the Hurst shifter apart and cleaned and reassembled the that. Got up at 5;30 AM and freed up the shifter rod adjusters using a torch to break them loose. Chased the threads with a die. And after all that, ended up not using it.

After all that and more I decided not to put the 4 speed in. Too many things could go wrong so we put the old 3 speed manual back in just to get on the road for the trip. Sounds easy, and always was before, but it just wouldn't go in. Got within about 1-1/4" and clunk. Even cut the hex heads off a couple 7/16 bolts for alignment. Made sure the plastic disc alignment tool still fit after every attempt. Yep, slipped right in. Tried it several times but clunk-stop.

Finally took the bell housing and clutch completely off and tried putting the trans in without the clutch or bell. The input shaft was very tight in the new bushing. Only about ,003-.004 clearance. We came up with the idea of using the actual trans as an alignment tool. Loosely assembled the clutch, no bell, supported the trans with the alignment pins and a jack in the rear. Tightened the pressure plate bolts, installed the bell, tried the trans, got a mini clunk but I grabbed the tailshaft and with a mighty heave forward, it slammed home! My son left soon after but I still had to install 3 on the tree linkage, starter, etc. That was Thursday.

Normally I would leave fir Carlisle Friday morning, drive the 5 hours and get to there about noon. My son returned about 9 and we put the buckets and seat belts in replacing the original bench. Holes had to be put in the new carpet for all that using a soldering iron. Meanwhile I put the floor mounted gas pedal in and did many other miscellaneous things. I noticed the rear brake hose was frayed (only 5 yrs old) so changed that and bled the rears. Checked tire pressure (more on that later) and changed the oil after he went home. Rolled it diwn the ramps, took it around the block, put tools away, threw a tool kit in the trunk and drove the car 12 miles home to grt my gear. (I keep it a female friend's garage) Then I had to drive another 12 miles (in the wrong direction!) to my son's house to pick him up. We left his house about 4:30 Friday and got to the motel about 9:15 Friday night.

We went to the Middlesex Diner Sat morn at 7, ate a big breakfast, drove to the show, parked, got out of the car. Uh oh! Where's my phone? Couldn't find it in the car. My son looked up the diners number and handed his phone to me. Talked to the woman about 3-4 minutes about where we were sitting, time we were there etc. But sonething wasn't registering. Finally figured out he had called the wrong diner. (Damn Google!) Talked to the correct diner and nope, they didnt have it. Left my son's number and hung up. I decided to drive BACK to the diner alone. Went right to my table, talked to the server, looked around abd then she asked the bus boy. Yep, he had found a phone and turned it into the front desk. It was ringing when i got there (my son calling). Why they didn't know it was there when i called can't be explained but I lost a full hour doing all that. Then yesterday morning I spotted the bus boy, asked if he had turned in my phone and slipped him a 20. He put it right in his pocket without looking. (Most places nowadays share all tips)

So my usual time at the show was considerably shortened. I saw a few hundred dustributors on tables so knew it was &Halifaxhops. He told me to sign the banner across the aisle at Mopar Mitch's spot so I did that.

More to come but I'm switching to a desktop in a few minutes for that. Pics are of the car thrashing, approaching a PA turnpike tunnel, and view out motel window.

Everything was going great on the trip home until....there are two 5 mile stretches on the PA pike where the suggested speed limit is 55 mph due to the twisty up and down road conditions. so I'm hammering through the second section at 65-70 when wham! sounded and felt like I hit something in left front. I slowed up a bit and car felt ok. My son undid his belt, rolled down the window and stuck his head out to look at the RF tire. He said it looked normal. About 15 seconds after that BANG! something hit the passenger side floor and there was a little vibration. I immediately braked hard and pulled over to the right berm. Yep, RF was flat. Must have run something over, stuck in the tire and finally flew out and hit the floor. Couldn't pick a worse place to have a blowout if I tried.

Uh oh! While lying under the car during the thrash I had made a mental note to check my spare tire pressure as it's been a while. Of course with so many things to do I had forgotten soon after. Was the spare flat too? We had to move a lot of stuff from the trunk to the weeds to find out. I pulled the hardboard spare cover up and put my thumb on the sidewall. Whew, it was holding air though soft.

The blown tire was still seated on both beads and a quick inspection revealed no hole.

A little history on the spare. When I bought this car about 5 years ago, it had been in storage since 1982 and the owner had 4 brand new unmounted 13" mud and snow tires stored with it; they still had the tits on the tread. The guy that flipped the car to me had them already mounted when I bought it from him and had it shipped from NB. It was one of those tires that was in the spare trunk well. A M&S tire dated 1981 on a upper 80 degree day hammering on the PA turnpike is not the best situation. Tire pressure was 20PSI. Good enough for now. Another thing I meant to bring was a cigarette lighter tire pump I had just bought about 2 weeks ago. Because the car was not at my house, I never quite got around to throwing it in my spares box in the trunk.

Anyway, I took out the scissor jack, crank and the breaker bar with 3/4" socket. The car was too low to slip the jack under the side rail so I tried the LCA. Almost fit! I had Kevin lift at the wheel lip and cranked her up. We had it changed in no time. Threw everything back in the trunk, waited for a break in traffic and headed down the road at a reduced speed. My son was worried because he could feel a difference in the car but he worries too much. So I cruised at 55MPH about 5 miles to the next service plaza.

Free air! Pumped it up to 30, took a little break. I also put some air in the blown tire while it was in the well but I heard it leaking out so we had no spare spare tire. I said we had 2 options. One, travel at a reduced speed so the old antiquated snow tire would hold together. Or two, get off the pike and take secondary roads at 50 MPH. If something happened we'd be off the pike and maybe could get some service. Yeah right, finding a 14" tire in rural PA on a Sunday afternoon. Ha! Speed limit was 70 so we went back on the pike at 60 MPH.

Meanwhile we could see on the phone weather map that there was a big yellow storm front in Ohio. I thought it would be pretty lucky if we could at least make it that far people would be driving slower and the rain water would keep the tire cool. Just like Chuck Berry's rain keeping his motor cool in Maybelline.

So we cruised home at 60 through the rain that eased up right before his house. His wife and 2 and 4 year olds were in the front yard when we rolled in about 4:30. Seeing my 2 grandkids all excited when they spotted us made it all worthwhile.

See ya all next year. EARLY! Already made motel reservations.

Mike , I could hang with you all day. I love laughing with you. The motor sold , There was a bidding war at the end. I ended up getting $4000 for it. A local chrysler dealer offered the $4500 after it was promised. But I kept my word to the $4000 offer.

We brought it home with us because the buyer ended up being friends with the owner of the Gold Demon we did. He wants the motor gone through at the shop. Heads , Cam and Gaskets. So the sale ended up getting my son shop work and possibly the install.

I want the shifter just send pics and your Paypal info and payment will be sent friends and family. I hope you can make some on all the grilles and parts you bought from us. I'll never forget the first time we met 2 or 3 years ago. I never stopped telling people about are meeting we didn't even know each other at that time and we laughed the whole morning. . And now I find out you own the triple red Duster. Small world. I have this video of your car saved .Steve

@Oldmanmopar If you haven't seem Mike's Red Duster in person, I hope you get to someday. There's not a camera on this earth that can do that car justice! I've known Mike for years, and he's always the same.

I remember your kid of course. I hope he didn't think I was rude by not spending more time with him but I was under duress just trying to make it home. He mentioned you used to have a 65 cuda and I told him my new seat cores were out of a 65 cuda. I wish you would have been able to stop by at the rest stop. You seem like an interesting guy. See you next year.
