70 duster, A833 put a diaphragm McLeod clutch into it last fall. Pedal engagement was at about 2 or 3 inches from the top. Worked great out about 600 miles on it. yes I removed the over center spring. Just today I went for a ride and went to shift and clutch pedal changed on one shift as if something bent and now something got messed as it engages about an inch or two off the floor. It was getting late so I never took a close look but could I have really bent a clutch fork that easily, it doesn’t look bent when I looked and the clutch still works, I would have figured if it broke, cracked I’d have no engagement. Can you pull the fork without removing the header? Maybe the fork pivot bent? Still seems if it broke/bent I would have lost all clutch, but it still works, engages and disengages just very very low. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Although this is likely not your issue, correct free travel is 1/2" - 3/4", 2" - 3" is way too much. The clutch was very likely not disengaging all the way.

That nut is on there tight, but I’ll double check the rest of the z bar later and make sure it’s where it needs to be.
Make sure it is not cracked around it allowing it to move when pressure is applied. They like to break out of the sheetmetal.

Z bar was fine. The linkage rod (which pushes against the shift fork)with the threaded nut was super loose. The rod threads are not in the best shape, but I tightened up the nut and it seemed fine. Worked the clutch pedal a dozen or so times seems fine, so took car for a spin, everything seems normal. So for now I’ll call it good, but I’ll be ordering a linkage rod to replace mine which isn’t in the best shape. Still not exactly sure what went wrong. Throw out bearing is fine, clutch fork looks straight, pivot under the clutch fork didn’t feel damaged (can’t really see it but I felt around with my fingers to see if it snapped, cracked, bent). Clutch pedal looks fine as well as the rod that links the pedal to the z bar. I’ll keep it on my radar and see how it goes.

I probably over estimated the free travel, but I’ll double check to make sure it’s within spec now. Thanks.

I had something similar happen to me with a MP 3 finger Borg & Beck. The bell housing was missing some attaching hardware and the aluminum bell ripped.
(Cracked)

I had the adjusting rod nut strip out before, at night, in the rain, in town. I had to shut the car off at red lights and start it in low gear, wasn't fun!
