Keystone Raceway Park this weekend

-
For the box and no box...does anyone really check the cars? I went to Mid-Michigan and my car certainly was not checked. I don't have a box (it's a foot-brake car) and I was running in a class where I'd say the average light was under an .015 with MANY perfect lights. NO way those are all no-box cars!! Took the fun out of it real quick.

I have no issue with delay boxes...just have a class without them and ensure they are not being used!! And let's get back to 1/4 mile racing as God intended it to be!!! (Can you tell I've been out of racing for 28 years???)

I'd rather put Chevy and Fords on the trailer. Mopar event should be in the final round only.
I never liked two Mopar's matched up in the early rounds.
Some tracks do that to eliminate the few Mopar's at the event.

most any track i have ever raced at, who you race is 100% dependant on when you got in the lane and who is across from you, or in the case of places like Norwalk, who is in front or behind you. Your getting one or the other
In other words completely random

I’m out for this weekend again. What could turn to she-it turned to she-it. And I’m easily discouraged anymore.

I only race 2 tracks other than the occasional bracket finals and I can't tell you the last time my car has been checked by the tech guys. Could be that I'm a regular and they know my stuff is good for the E.T. I run, but still I'd rather them check stuff. I honestly think that's why they changed Footbrake/Pro to allow transbrakes and what not. They got tired of some racers complaining about cheaters and cars not being teched, so they just opened up the rules. I honestly don't know if some tracks even care if guys cheat as long as they get their $.

I can understand that, for some reason with all the Mopars around only a few show up to race at Mopar events. I try every year to get people to come to the annual Mopar race at my home track but few show up. Even South Mountain had to open up their Friday evening Mopar race during Chryslers at Carlisle to all makes to get better turnout however there are a few Mopar only classes which I will be running my truck in two maybe three classes. With Chryslers at Carlisle being such a huge event it is so strange that out of all the cars there only a few show up to race. I went to the Mopar Nats once back in the 90s it stunk for racers and I never went back again, went to Keystone twice back in the mid 2000s for Mopar races and had a good time but then it was Mopars only. Being a Pittsburgh native it brings back memories going there I actually worked for a heavy equipment dealer in Monroeville for awhile right after I graduated high school.

Back when Ron Wallace and Ed Stambaugh owned the track the Mopar race drew in a decent car count and had TONS of spectators. They were hooked up with Carlisle Events where Carlisle got a certain % of the gate fee, but Carlisle would bus people over. They would even bring over some of the big name people (I remember Goldberg one year). Stanley bought the the track in 2008 renamed it to Quarter Aces Dragway. He didn't want to give Carlisle the % Ron and Ed did so Carlisle quit bringing people over. After running the track into the ground (even though he did make some improvements to it) the track was closed in 2013 I think it was. Mike Natoli bought the track renamed it South Mountain Raceway. Ever since the Mopar race got skipped for the year the car count and crowd has really suffered. Personally if it's a Mopar vs World thing, just have a regular race. Mason Dixon still has their Mopar only race, it doesn't really pay crap, but atleast its all mopars.

Not the big money races. At keystone Saturday no box and box are 1/8 mile but there is also a Nostalgia Race and they always run 1/4 mile. There was talk last year of a possible 1000 foot big money race at Dragway 42.

Ya I still like the 1/4 mile. I can drive as fast on the freeway as my car runs in the 1/8. lol but cash is cash! Where's the closest to Brighton Mi. if you would know. Thanks.

I am up here and turnout isn't so great. A lot of Mopar but a lot of brand x also. They have a way bigger turnout for a normal points day. Weather is great tho.

I was hoping the turnout would be better but I knew they were up against some nearby competition. Mopar Carlyle and the 5000.00-10,000.00-5000.00 race at nearby Quaker City. Others have a tendency to take a week off if it’s not a points race. The weatherman all week calling for rain too.

I remember those old Mopar races at the Mountain. Was there this year and raced, trying to support it. Sadly its been down the past few years and I can't see it being on their schedule anymore. I'm sure the % Carlisle wants has to big. No track owner would turn away the big crowd.

I was there with my truck as its one of the main reasons I go to Chryslers at Carlisle, I double entered two classes right before a third time shot it rained and that was it. I wasn't happy as my truck rarely sees rain luckily I found a wash it yourself place to clean it on the way back to the hotel as the weather cleared. I really don't understand how there's 3,000 cars at Carlisle and only 20 or so show to race, poor promotion, lack of interest, who knows? I emailed Mountain Mike with a few suggestions to improve attendance , we will see. I would really hate to see it disappear as I like racing there during Carlisle.

I wish I could explain some of the things going on today. Mike is my friends son and he’s my sons age (32). His Dad always had chevies that he beat around in but never really raced. With a huge shop in Freeport we hung around for hours sipping a few adult drinks with the kids playing with race cars at our feet. Mike went to the races with h us quit a bit and loved racing. Today mike owns a custom paint shop 1 mile from dads shop, has an LS 5 speed camero with ported heads and other work and has never had had it to the track. He probably has at least two other faster cars and two beautiful trucks and his time is showing his trucks. There are at least 3-4 other kids that hung out with us that have nice faster cars but don’t even test n tune. Look at my son. He loves and knows racing probably better than me. His car has been sitting for over three years with engines and transmissions available if he would follow a few fatherly rules. Nope. He now waits on seats offered to him. I have never missed a year of racing and I mean that was through a divorce, fighting for child custody, rebuying my house, a heart attack, and one period in the mill that I was laid off for 13 months, went back for a week, and off 4 more months. Strange, very strange.

Being that he just purchased the track, he is very interested in keeping and promoting the track to be a viable and good place to go. He is a good fella that I am sure will read your email with interest and give it some honest thought. I might even expect a reply.

He is under some limitations as the law allows and doesn’t. This is something he is looking forward to handling in time. But it will take a little time.

After speaking with him on this topic, he looks forward to growing the track and improving the track. He is mildly hampered but this will change shortly. I’m s just a matter of time and not much of it.

update: Mike got back to me and seems determined to make the Mopar race work ! if he has it I will be there! I know its way to early to think about next year but it looks like July 13 would be the tentative date of course depending on the tracks schedule as that appears to be the dates for Chryslers at Carlisle 2022

As far as South Mountain goes with lack of attendance....... it’s simple, their website had outdated info from 2020 and 2019 Race Schedule!
I was at South Mountain on Friday, the track announcer was in shock about the lack of Mopar’s in attendance...
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!

I’ll shoot Mike an email as well. I do try to support local tracks. Typically when a track has a “Flyer”, I post it up, along with a link to the track. Rarely is there a response from FABO, FBBO and of course FMJBO.

Lack of entrance signs made entry confusing to those who weren’t familiar with the track!

I understand the rain put a hamper on the event but... At that point the announcer could’ve suggested to come on down to the tower, but a shirt and receive a hamburger for free ( or something) sort of promoting the track/ advertising it and working on customer relations...

Website promotion i$ key

Gotta (kinda) disagree. I cant get dick for info at my local tracks. One wont answer the phone, one has a two year old unintelligible message, and both tell me to visit their facebook site. To those racetracks.... **** you, i wont use facebook, if you wont talk to me, i wont come.
