Aluminum Head Feedback

-
I installed those on my son's 360 we just built for his Duster with a Lunati Voodoo 268/276 .494/.513 cam. It is just now broken in and ready for its first oil change, so we haven't pushed it hard yet. Once we get some more run time on it and push them I can report back here.

When we got them we pulled them apart, cleaned them, and checked them over. I haven't seen any issues so far, other than some small shavings down in the rocker shaft threads when cleaning and the fact that the threads for the intake bolts were tight (bolts went in a lot better after chasing them, save some grief and do this before installing).

I ordered a set for mine too, but one head came with bad core shift in one set of intake ports (1/4" step). Speedmaster paid to ship them back and replaced them, so I can't complain too much (other than it all taking a while). I never have fitted mine, only cleaned and inspected, can't bring myself to tear apart a good running small block :)

There are plenty of threads regarding these heads. I believe some are stickied at the top of the page. They are basically god to go and many prefer them to Edelbrock heads.

Oh yeah the sticky. Never thought to look first. I should know better! Thanks.

I have a set I bought bare and had built for my engine. My only complaint is the valve cover rail on mine were too short. I needed 3/8" spacers for the valve covers to clear the intake even after grinding down all the bosses that typically get in the way plus more material. Could have just been my set, mine are probably 8-9 years old now. My dad has used SBF and SBChubby Procomp/Speed Master heads for friends builds and they have been fine too, but they were all bought bare and built.

If you buy a assembled set disassemble them and go over them or have a shop do it.

If you can hold off till Nov, they are usually 40% off through speedmaster's black friday sale. That's when I bought mine
Don't hold your breath. I believe this November will be a little different.
If you want a part you better get it ordered and don't wait for a sale that may never come.

You might want to search out my 390" stroker build, there are some OFTEN overlooked issues with the speedmaster small block heads

That's OK, Thanx anyway. The only imported big block head I'll use is the 440 Source head.
as far as I'm concerned with a little work it's the best budget big block head out there.

lol... i was jok'n.. :D :D

I have had mine on for going on 4 years without any problems they are a pretty good little head and outflow any stock production head by a fairly significant amount. The only problem I had was the pushrod holes seem to be in set ever so slightly causing a few push rods to kiss the head a very small amount of clearance needed to be done in this area . I would not hesitate to buy another pair.

And are they any better coming from China? Kim
I think they are the same casting as the China Speedmasters but with a quality 5 angle valve job and pocket ported. Promaxx buys them bare and build them per order. Mine took about a month and showed up today. Look good to me. Customer service was good. They have good quality control. I've heard nothing but good things about Promaxx.

Have you taken any valves out? Would you mind posting some photos?

I can post some pics tomorrow. I'm beat from working in this heat. They are shrink wrapped and I an leaving them that way until I can fit them.
I see no reason to disassemble them.
